We went to Açores the island of Faial for our 25th wedding anniversary in 2003 ... we spent 8 days there and then 10 here in Algarve at our apartment. What an absolute place to go to ... we still think about buying there. It is a volcanic island but small and beautiful. Would go back there again in a moment ....

We took the kids on a camping trip round Europe last year and they enjoyed it so much that we did it again this summer. It's a great chance for them to see the languages they learn in school in practice and it didn't cost the earth :) there's a good chance we will do it again next year too

Didn't you do Germany last year Kyle? Is there a connection? My Sis lives in Germany, has done for 46 years, in Oldenburg, now half the year in Florida.

My girlfriend likes Germany! I enjoyed Berlin and Munich looks totally different to Berlin (Berlin was very flat). It was going to be either Munich or Rome, but went for the former :)

That's what we've been doing since I retired at the turn of the century (end of the twentieth not the beginning :old: :heehee:). We spend the most of the spring/summer/autumn looking after our garden.

We've just returned from a month travelling through Asia. It's the first travelling we've done in two years apart from our usual couple of trips to the Lake District.

We prefer seeing how people live, their customs, their history and ancient history and seeing the country and wildlife. We're not sitting around and sunning ourselves type of people but are definitely finding it harder each year to do what we prefer doing :old:. We'll continue doing it as long as we can .

This time we toured India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. A lot of the places we visited we're religious sites because that's what they have a lot of in that part of the world. We became friendly with quite a lot of locals and found the people everywhere were wonderfully friendly.

We're fortunate to have friends all over the world so are able to impose ourselves :heehee: on them as we travel round. We've met most of them on our travels in the past. You know the usual sort of conversation:- "If you're ever in the area you must come and visit". We're the horrible people that take them up on the insincere offer!! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

          Nonsense Mr Shiney,
I'm sure the people you pop in to see are really chuffed that you've travelled from afar to rekindle that friendship. My Pete and I love Asia and the simple innocence of their daily lives. I always feel safe when I am walking alone - unlike certain places in my home town of Hastings sadly. Long may you continue to travel, enriching both your lives and that of others,
          Jenny
this is me with a Cha-am Thailand Dec & Jan 220.JPG Tailor, his wife and children in Thailand last January. Taught the children "cats cradle " - so lovely to watch their faces as they are learning.

Nice picture, Jenny :dbgrtmb:. Some people seem afraid to wander amongst the locals!

Even the teenagers are friendly. This was taken in the interior of Java when we were on our way up to an ancient temple about 4,000ft up in the mountains. We were all sheltering from the rain (they were on their way up to the temples as well).

Really cannot understand why people go on holiday and never leave the resort/poolside, I love to eat as the locals and try different foods, and see how they live.

Yep! Nothing like trying the local food and eating from newspaper.

One of the best meals I recall eating in Belize was in a home made into a restaurant. many were there, you just helped yourself out of these big pots of food to your plate, good stuff. One thing I liked was at the enterance there was a small sink and soap where you washed your hands before going in.

Anyway, was thinking, if anyone comes to America to vacation, let me know, perhaps you will be close enough we could meet. And myself if I get across the pond I will be sure to tell everyone.
