2013 Tomato Growing

Only growing 2 sorts this year want more space for chillis, peppers and cucumbers.

Personally, I don't mind misshapen fruits, reminds me of those tasty toms I've bought when abroad, somewhere sunny.

 

My December sown toms are now ready for pricking out. It will probably be March when they get their first glimpse of natural light.

Stick some under you lights amongst your onions. Some varieties respond to artificial light better than others. I've read that hot, dry conditions in a grow light box can affect fruit setting, so those Timex thermometers of mine that also have hygrometers could prove handy.

 

I'll be using the lights for my toms, but later on, probably around March sometime. It's nice to have early toms, but I've found the earlier they fruit, the earlier they finish. So, to keep heating costs down, I like to wait a bit

I sniffed their leaves today to remind myself of summer smells and lovely fresh home grown tomatoes, not that tasteless shop bought stuff that's only available at the moment.

 

I think I'm going to start off some seeds later this week, to get them ready for the new polytunnel....plus a few to give away no doubt!

 

I'll have to wait for that, but reading that, it's sooooo tempting
