Daft question I know, but what if a seed doesn't have good contact with the compost?

Some of the ones I've just sown say 'do not exclude light', so I didn't bury them. Just put them on the surface of moistened compost in a propagator and whacked it in my new grow cupboard.

If they don't have good firm contact, will they still a) soak up enough moisture to germinate, and b) manage to get their immature root into the compost ok?

    Hiya C1.

Stick the pot/container in a poly bag, and I'm sure they'll be fine:blue thumb:

They'll be fine Clueless, but if you're still worried, give them a light spray with water and that will make sure they are in contact with the soil.

As Sheal said , I give surface sown seed a light spray ( I use a copper solution to prevent damping off ) and then very lightly tamp them down .

As long as they have some moisture, they don't even need any compost. I germinate lots in a sealed polybag on damp kitchen roll. Damped as HarryS said with dilute copper solution.
