    Jut read this article on a near miss with the Apophis asteroid . The near miss was 8 million miles away , but there is a very Small chance of a hit in 2036 ! What sort of damage will a 300metre diameter lump of rock do ?

      My best guess is that it will be probably fatal.

      The Go'auld are coming :runforhills::runforhills::runforhills::sofa:

      Sounds like we're gonna have to make the transition to a Type 1 civilisation sooner than we thought.

      Oh well, I'll probably have pegged it by then, anyway. No point in worrying about it.

          Don't know about the logistics of catching up with it, strapping a nuclear retro rocket to it and adjusting its course, but it would certainly take the planets combined resources to do so.

          Maybe if we could stop fighting each other for long enough.......

              Well I was kinda hoping we could do what SG1 did when the Go'auld sent the Naquita enhanced asteroid towards the Earth in a sneaky move to get round the protected planets treaty with the Asgard, the Nox and the.... Who were the other race? the Tolen??

              They gated it thru the planet so it rematerialised on the other side with no damage to Earth.

              But i'm guessing thats not going to happen this time.

              Bet you're glad I don't have an actual TV to watch this stuff Kaz:snork:

              I thought they used stolen go'auld (or asgard) technology to put the whole of earth into hyperspace just before impact, rematerialising just when it was safe.

                I liked Stargate. Got a bit bored of it after they defeated the Go'auld and then seemed to defeat everyone much more easily. The final straw for me was when they ended up at war with extreme cult people and the sentient lego people at the same time.
