2013 Onion Growing Challenge

Hiya John.

I'm not really able to maintain temperatures constantly in that range. My min/max thermometer is recording 'lows' of around 10-13c and 'highs' of around 25c.

 

Hiya John, I guess so, yes. Thing is, I'm always loathed to have 'stuff' indoors, as I like to keep up the humidity, not easy indoors. I guess I could 'bag up' the pots

Still nothing showing, so I've decided to buy some more seed. Something of a setback, but that's ok, it's the 'gardeners lot'

 

I'm moving mine around the house to keep them in the sun while we've got some.

 

I've just done a second sowing of the Dwarf beans as the first lot rotted, so you're not alone there Freddy. Got germination on the Runner beans though

 

Were bis gunner grow they to then? A bit early innit?

 

They'll bide in their own Gardeners Corner

Poor germination of all my varieties. I've now got 22 Ailsae, 13 Kelsae and 2 Robinsons Mammoth Red pricked out into a 40x cellular tray with 3 empty cells, but that should be enough and I don't want to use my lights exclusively for onions.

 

I'm trying to keep the temperature down my propagator isn't TC and they are growing a bit too well...cranked up the prop bench to put them in there.....hope i don't check their growth......

 

Will that still be warm enough during the freezing weather that's forecast for next week?

 

I've got covers for it and fleece,bubble wrap you name it Scrungee...but i'll have to keep my eye on the ball......can you tell i've never grown an onion in my life

 

Bedfordshire Champs an almost total loss, got about 6 seed germinated, it was old seed though, on the order list for this years seed buying...

I'll try and get a piccy of the Kelsaes and Long Red Florence sometime this week, quite a few (dozen) at the crook stage, potting on into 64 cell trays filled with JI no 2 plus a few in my made up recipe, going straight into 4" pots.
