I've covered it in hair spray to try to preserve it:dunno: i'm going to keep putting more layers on it:dbgrtmb: tried spray varnish but the spray was too powerfull and it was starting to disintegrate.....we get them every year but was determined to save this one before it got destroyed......

Well done Lolimac hope it works well using the hairspray - reminds me of the 'Beehive' hairstyle, I think you may be creating the 'wasps nest' hairstyle!

If you hang it up, you won't get more Wasps building a nest near it this year. They won't build near another colony.

Bit like you wouldn't build a Death Star in orbit around a planet thats already got one.

Wish I'd taken photo's of the wasps nests that was in my loft when we moved here 2 years ago: they were mahoosive!!!:thud:

The guy who came to "cleanse" the area was (rightly) impressed; he spoiled it by saying: "Yeah, and people wonder what happens to their fence panels :heehee: !"
 Give us a *bit* of mystery, won'tcha?" :dunno: (Spoil sport!)

Well, I know they don't use Creosote painted wood for their nests so they do nothing to my fences for sure.:heehee:

                          *Update* Sat 26 Jan 2013

Been up to check on both of the hives had to wait for the snow to melt to get up the lane's, ditch on one side so you do have to be careful not the widest Lane I have driven up.
Both had bees flying outside only a few which is a good sign collecting water to mix with the honey and hopefully a cleansing flight aka toilet , "hefted" still feel heavy enough with stores, but I will check weekly/fortnightly just to make sure.

So despite all this bad weather still looking good , I will start a tidy up of the Apiary site very soon and prepare the soil along the stream ready for planting up with various marginal plants.

                          Roll on the spring

Glad to hear the Bees are okay and doing a few "test" flights already. It just shows how tough insects are surviving through the harsh and hard Winter. I'm looking forward to watching how your Bees progress this year and like everyone else will be really interested in the Bee Thread. :snork:
