I imagine a lot of those are at risk with the current axe wielding government cutting as much benefits as they can, no?

Just thought I would chip in a say my other half used to work nights constantly and now currently works shift work that involves him working nights every 8 weeks. He tells me how depressing it is waking up this time of the year and seeing nothing but darkness. He never seemed to get enough sleep and we don't even have a kid to worry about looking after. It's much more difficult trying to switch off while sleeping in the day than it is during a normal sleep patten. It will effect your behavior too. Sometimes he can spend a whole week of nights not registering anything I have said to him, as his mind is still switched off.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone personally, unless you really have to do it.

Sorry to be blunt here, if your parents are getting carers allowance, motobility and pensions ??, can they not afford to pay you to be there, if willing to pay for "professional" help, that money could be given to you, to ease your burden.

My ex was a permanent night worker and, as you say, at this time of year, he rarely saw daylight.

Mr Mum is a mixed-shift worker and when he works an "early" shift (such as this week) he leaves home when it's dark, works in an environment where there are no windows (so, no natural light) and then returns home in the dark too; nights are the same. And yes, it is does impact on their alertness, behaviour and .... health ;)

With my ex, it was a financial necessity; with Mr Mum, it is the nature of the beast.

That can be a very difficult subject between family members - especially when there will always be a certain degree of "family duty/obligation". I believe crg did say that she is given £55 per week carer's allowance?

I took it that Chimney and parents were living together in which case the £32k is sort of double the working persons income (take home pay)

I think now that Chimney is living with a child and parents living elsewhere, in which case they will be well provided for,HBA, COUNCIL TAX PAID, DLA, INCOME SUPPORT including carers allowance to pay who they wish for the care, ie they will have rent paid, council tax paid, mobility (car of their own or free taxis) and additional payment for care to give to who they so wish council or family

If the above is the case then Chimney if not working will also have £80 pw for the child
hba, council tax, and Income support and care for parents paid by them and her income to the home is below £14k with a partner present more than two nights per week, feeds or washes clothes for the partner so the equivalent take home pay to a normal working family of an additional £18k a year
        http://taxcredits.hmrc.gov.uk/Qualify/DIQHousehold.aspx

In reality a family with one child where the HUSBAND works 37hrs pw the take home pay plus benefits is £14k out of this they have to pay their MORTGAGE or RENT, FULL COUNCIL TAX, and all other bills, Transport to and from work, food away from home etc

So a couple with one child, living together and working are about £6k a year worse off than on benefit (providing they have not worked for over 13 months)

Chimney phone the TAX CREDIT HELP LINE, THEY WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH IT ALL and complete the forms correctly for you,
The only thing you need to hand is 11/12 P60 and a rough calculation if you think this current year is going to be less

We will leave personal stuff out of this on here but IF Your partners income is less than £20k You must get something, along with even if they say only ten pounds a week then your prescriptions, glasses, dental bills etc become free you must get at least £50 per month for the child in addition to the Child benefit of £80

        0345 300 3900 08:00 to 20:00

It is a free phone number costs you nothing but about 20minutes of your time
DO NOT USE A MOBILE PHONE, The cost is then 20p pm, use a land line, for free or go
into a job centre and ask for the direct line
