Mother Shipton foretold of a time when all seasons would merge into one. She was a crazy old woman, and I for one know better than to ignore the insane ramblings of crazy old women.

I remember Mother Shipton (well, not personally, obviously :heehee: ) but, we're not at that stage: yet. ;)

We still have seasons and I still prefer Spring and Autumn to Winter/Summer. That is what puts the "Great" into Great Britain (for me, at least).

I've not seen Jenny actually eat snow, she just disappears off into the darkness of the garden and will then shoot back into the house at great speed banging into every door on the way:cat-kittyandsmiley: :snork:

Now, if Jenny were a child, the social services would be banging on your door and advising you to put bumpers on them to lessen any impact damage :nonofinger:

*sends Jenny a painkiller for the impact trauma*

I must admit every time she bangs into a door on her high speed run into the House I think "Ouch, that must hurt!" but she just screeches to a halt and licks her unmentionables:cat-kittyandsmiley: :heehee:

This is first snow Tuesday morning and there was a blizzard just after I took the pic so there is a lot more snow now.
Tuesday night it was minus 12°
A lot of snow forecast for tomorrow. Daughter who lives just a few miles away rang to warn us the power supply is failing, can't cope with the demand and they are sitting in candlelight. I have found a couple of torches just in case.

It started to snow heavily just before 4 p.m. on the 14th and continued for only a few hours. Although there wasn't an enormous amount of snow, and it hasn't snowed since, it's still there because of the cold weather.

I took this just as it started.

A lot of you will remember the big freeze of 1963 but how many remember the one in 1947?

I have plans for coping with the snow they are forecasting this afternoon. I'm staying snug indoors if it is heavy and shall hibernate for a while.

I remember the snow of 63, trudged all the way to school, no school buses in those days, not the nearest but about 3 miles away, to be sent home mid morning.

Sorry Shiney 47 predates my existence,

We've had 2 or 3 inches of snow here overnight.
This is the view that greeted me first thing this morning looking out of the window.

                DSC07595.JPG

The temperatures didn't get as low last night as in recent nights though, only around -2C. Having said that, the wind is picking up a bit now and veering towards the east.

So, guess what happened last night? Our boiler packed up.

Taken a day's holiday so I can stay in and wait for the engineer to arrive, I have to say I'm not that disappointed to be having the day off in this weather.

I remember the winter of 1962/63 - that was the year my parents moved from Folkestone to Maidstone (about 4 days before Christmas), we returned to Folkestone to spend Christmas with my Grandparents and it took my Father 6 hours to drive us back to Maidstone again afterwards!

By the early 1980s my husband and I were living, literally, on the top of Wrotham Hill, Kent. Unable to get out, we went to help a friend 'dig out' his land rover that he'd had to abandon in a nearby lane, only couldn't find it since - by the time we got there - it was completely buried with an extra 3' of snow on top of it - it stayed buried for nearly 3 weeks.

Fast forward to 2009 - that was the year when (where we lived) we had ...... 2" of snow. It was also the year the driver of my daughter's evening train took the decision to terminate his train at the most remote station he could find, (the same station at which, a week before, a young woman of my daughter's age had been attacked and raped). With no buses or taxis available, she spent over 4 hours walking alone, the 7.8 miles home, along unlit roads (in trainers) - it was also the year SouthEastern trains replied to my letter of complaint by saying "...... the safety of our passengers is always of paramount importance ..." :yikes:
