A Nice Surprise

Hi Chums

Went down the veg patch this morning, and to my surprise there were some shoots from my planted garlic. Thing is, I planted it in late September and had given up on it when it still hadn't shown in December. I know that with gardening we get some failures, but I was quite depressed given that it's quite an easy crop to grow, and should be straight forward. I wasn't looking forward to having to wait until this September to start again.

Mine didn't get planted until the end of November and I saw the first 2 shoots yesterday.

 

Yikes, I forgot about garlic! I've some of last years in the greenhouse, I'll try planting some during the week.

 

Great news, Freddy!! That really is a result - all this rain and I would have been worried too. Wishing you a bountiful harvest once they are ripe

Ditto - thankfully the varieties I have say they can be Autumn or Spring planted: hopefully yours will be similar.

Has anyone ever had any luck with spring planted Garlic? I have planted some in spring in the past, but I only ended up with a single large clove.

 

A single "Large" clove would be an improvement on last year!

Despite the bad weather, I was quite pleased with mine. I had bulbs filled with nice plump cloves

I've got hundreds of cloves waiting to be planted but the ground's frozen solid, but if daytime temps increase over the weekend I might be able to plant them.

It seems I've been misunderstood. What I mean is, has anyone planted Garlic in spring, and had a good crop? ie, did they divide properly?
