You are definitely right there chimneyrosegarden - I am always worse in winter than I am in the summer.

Well, here I am into the third week, and apart from being a wee bit slow to start of a morning I have no ill effects and greatly reduced pain. I still get some during the night, so maybe the dose might need playing with, but things are infinitely better than they were - night before last, I actually slept for 6 hours solid!

Wee bit of a silly one yesterday morning, where I got up and rushed out the door to try and get to work early - nearly took out some poor fella in a white BMW on a roundabout simply because I wasn't properly awake; I should have had my usual wake up mug of coffee instead of rushing, and am really annoyed at myself as I of all people should know better being a professionally qualified driver. Anyway, we didn't collide, so no harm done (well, apart from the BMW driver ending up with brown underwear, despite having left home wearing white! ) - lesson learned.

Glad to hear you're improving FC. Going on my own pain issues you should feel much better when this dreadful weather takes a turn for the better too. :)

We are definitely on the right track - I haven't had this little pain in about 12 years.

fat controller I am constantly dealing with medication problems like this on BoneSmart and can tell you for the record that amtryptylline is often used for chronic pain in the expectation that it will calm down the nerves responsible for transmitting pain message to the brain. So it's not actually a pain killer but it is often very effective.

And Tramadol is actually a very good and very widely used pain killer - often with paracetamol as a companion - which, though it can have dependency issues, for the most part is okay. And you might like to read this article from Bonesmart Myth busting: on getting addicted to pain meds. I really don't think it helps to keep bandying around stories about addiction. It just frightens people unnecessarily. Dependency is quite different from addiction and according to statistics (in the article) happens pretty rarely anyway.

Daisees - thank you for the link, makes interesting reading :ThankYou:

I didn't get on with tramadol at all, it didn't really do anything for the pain and as the dosage was increased in attempts to get the desired effect, it simply caused me to feel thoroughly rotten. Codeine on the other hand did help, however I was met with a reluctance to even attempt that, although in fairness that was coupled with a reluctance to believe that I was experiencing pain in the first place.

I am glad to say that the current doctors seem to be much better at listening than we have had for many years, and the simple fact that I feel like I am being listened to and believed at long last.

I'd like to thank all of you, here, for your continued moral support and advice - I am truly grateful :grphg:
