Never had a lot of luck with birdboxes. Bought 2 new ones which are now weathering outside. I'll leave one with a small hole for Tit sized birds . I can remove the front of one of them to make an open fronted nest box . I was planning on fitting them too a north-eastish facing wall in a very sheltered position. Will they be OK about 3 metres apart ? Or is that too close for nesting birds.

    TIA

Not an expert, Harry, but I would say that should be ok because your nest boxes are two different types and will attrack two different kinds of birds with differing feed needs.

You've already covered the positioning by not having them in full sun (N/NE is good!), sheltered is good. How high are you going to put them? Will they be out of the way of any feline visitors? Will you be providing any supplementary foods or will they be in an area where natural food will be their primary source?

I've had nest boxes for a number of years and the birds do seem to like them (even though, in ignorance, initially I sited them in the wrong place  ) When we moved here, Mr Mum thought I was putting them up as "decorations" and was totally gobsmacked (and absolutely delighted!) when residents moved in :)

I have some which are much closer together than 3 meters and they were all used last Spring.

You not heard of Road Runners? They might like a mobile nest box.

My bird boxes are placed on the South fence so that they're facing North, some are by the Pond on the West Fence so they're facing East, and some on the West fence so they're facing West, with one in the roof of the Arbour:snork:
