That's great CRG, but to be honest my heart sank a little bit when I read that nasturtiums are among your seedlings. Its far too early. They can't go outside til the end of March at the earliest (after last frost), and by then they're going to want to be massive.

I guess if you keep them indoors, well fed and watered, and maybe trim off any attempt at producing the big tendrils, because once they start sending out those tendrils, they're away, and I can't see how it would be practical to keep them indoors at that point.

Have you still got some seeds left for a later sowing? If not, give me a shout around the beginning of March and I'll send you some.

No, that's a great start. She can eat both. My little girl's three. She started on marigolds, sunflower (petals only) and strawberries. You want to get a little one interested in the garden? Food is the one thing they can't resist. Next summer I'll introduce her to daisy and dandilion petals.

Hopefully she'll leave our strawberries alone!

Don't forget you can grow carrot tops indoors :blue thumb:. When you cut the top off the carrot, before peeling it, place it in a saucer with a little water and put it on the windowsill. It will gradually sprout leaves :)

As long as it isn't too cold on the windowsill it should be noticeable within a week and then start growing fairly quickly. The warmer it is the quicker it will grow. Change the water every couple of days.

What are those seedlings in the cell tray? They look like they're too warm or not getting enough light.

How did you find it in terms of germinating? Obviously its germinated well now, but how long did it take, what conditions did you give it etc, what sort of percentage success rate do you think you got?

Sorry for the millions of questions, but I've never tried lavender from seed but I want to this year as I'm going to need a lot of the stuff for my grand plan. I've tried rosemary from seed, which is related, and had a 100% failure rate with it.

I am a complete novice I just baught a cheap packet of lavender munstead wood. My daughter planted them. I got 50% germination rate approx but the others are coming I just have to keep compost moist all the time. On a sunny windowsil its been about three weeks I think

Clueless, Lavender can be a bit hit and miss regarding germination, I find it does better in my electric propagator though. I'm trying 'Bush Baby' this year, a dwarf variety. :)
