:cry3: Ive not been on GC for a while and have only recently started to make posts. I used to be a regular on here but due to life changes on my behalf. Have been away for a while. I have chatted to many people on here over the years, who I feel have become friends.............Im digressing. I have just come on GC and had an ad telling me, '3 people have unfriended you'.... I'm really upset by this. :(

This is one to watch out for in case it pops up while you're online...it's really quite clever and you will quickly see how the same scam can be applied in a variety of ways.

For those too busy to read the link - as soon as you enter a valid mobile number, that number gets charged extortionate fees which were explained in the terms and conditions you didn't read but ticked/checked.

O2, I agree with you :blue thumb:. That keeps popping up on my screen as well!

I now ignore it but I think it's offensive and shouldn't be allowed on here.

Unfortunately, I don't know whether admin can do anything about it but they should , at least, look into it. I know that if I was a newbie on here I wouldn't bother to come back but as I know how friendly GC is I can ignore it with ease. :)

Whilst talking of scams please be aware that if you receive a phone call from an international or uk number saying your computer is infected its a scam and if you follow their instructions you could end up with a large bill. A couple of my clients fell for it and payed £200, thankfully by credit card and fully refunded.

As jiffy says I am aware they are there, but just do not "see" them any more, all sites seem to have these flashing ads nowadays, it`s all about advertising revenue. If G.C. gets a few bob from it let it flash,

Wendy don't be upset by it as it appears on one or two other forums that I am on and it is always the same three who have unfriended me too so you are in good company. The thing is I think this has evolved from that rotten face book site. If people have unfriended me then I wouldn't want to know them anyway! Nice to see you back on the site. Take care.

I have seen the same advert on many websites currently ... A new strategy?

I will contact Google and ask if it can be removed, as I have the final say on what ads are run.

Give it a day or so to take effect though, as Google can drag their heels sometimes.

Unfriending can be a bit of a bitchy, teenage thing on facebook. However, seeing as most people seem to have a long list of friends, many of which they have only the barest connection with (in my case people who I danced with once 5 years ago and who probably wouldn't even recognise me now) a bit of tidying up occasionally doesn't do any harm. As long as it's discreet and non-malicious.

Hi O2, nice to see you back. So now I am totally confused (easy to confuse me!) I haven't seen this advert and I admit would upset me if I did see it. So does it mean 3 people really have unfriended you here?

            Thanks Nathan, :dbgrtmb:

It really is unpleasant to see something like this. I just ignored it, particularly as I'm not on Farcebook or any other similar sites, but Mrs Shiney wasn't too happy with it being there. It doesn't do anything to enhance GC.

No, no one has unfriended anyone on here. It doesn't relate to GC at all.

It can't, as when we changed boards, we no longer have a friends system, just a following system.

The ads are cookie based so if you've recently been on Facebook or similar the ads will know that from the cookies on your computer & taylor the ads you see.

If you clear your cookies it won't have anything to go on so you'll just see random ads.

I realise that's how most of the things work but we don't go on facebook. Mrs Shiney sometimes receives emails asking her to befriend people. Could they pick up on that?

Possibly, when I first joined facebok it came up with loads of friends suggestions that it could only have got by trawling my email address book. Scary really.
