Went to my first Snowdrop sale today. Fascinating to see so many different markings and types, quite opened my eyes, compared to the drifts of snowdrops, all much-of-a-muchness that I am used to.

Didn't manage to get a Grumpy though, I thought Mrs K would like me to have one as a Self Portrait!

Bighting cold today, and parking in a muddy field was touch-and-go ... did cause Mrs K and I to remark that collecting Roses would be a better hobby - all outings would be in mid Summer. Everyone at the Snowdrop day out was wearing a bubble hat and thick anorak ...

I reckon many of the stalls had 200 pots on, and prices £10 - £35 each, not a bad little earner for them for a day out :)

I agree, Kayleigh, they are pretty:snork: Snowdrops seem to be going the way Tulips did in the 15th Century. They went to astronomical prices with people paying the price of as much as 100 acres of land to buy one........then the market crashed and so did a lot of peoples lives!!:coffee:

One of the ones I bought last week, at £4 each, was in price lists at £20 each last year ... people seem to be prepared to pay to be "first" with newly found varieties, like anything I suppose.

I'm happy to buy a few interesting-looking snowdrops for a few quid each. I doubt any of my mucky mates will have seen a snowdrop that is in any way different from the bog standard ones in the woods, and will enjoy seeing the ones I am growing, and would be no more wow'd if they cost thousands or pennies :)

Of course that's what I'm saying now, when I have plenty of varieties I can buy for a few quid each ... addiction will come later I expect!

I had read about them Jack, they now have National Collections status I believe. Bit far to just hop in the car and make some impulse purchases though, sadly.

Sadly still not got a winning lottery ticket to be able to just jump in the Gulf Stream ...

Buying a ticket would probably improve my chances ... marginally!

You have to buy a ticket, Kristen???? I guessed I must have been going wrong somewhere.....I thought you just had to be lucky...........that's no good either, as my luck tends to follow the song "if it weren't for Bad Luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all!!:heehee:

You just need a little bit of luck on your side. Just ask Marlon Brando.

For some odd reason I never really "connected" with Marlon. I didn't even know he could sing, I associate him with low mumbled lines and didn't really rate him....shows how wrong you can be.:dunno: :heehee:

He only really started mumbling when he played The Godfather. Although he did mumble a bit in some earlier films.

In the 1955 film of Guys and Dolls he was very articulate but still had a hint of the southern accent he had in most films.

Anyway, what's wrong with "ordinary" Snowdrops??? Normally we stand well above them and only see a tiny flower but yesterday I decided to have a closer look and they're a beautiful sight.

It's amazing how evolution design has gone into the simple Snowdrop, and how much we miss by not looking closer.:snork:
