Mild dose of canker there Kristen and a bit of forking too, your soils a bit too rich but otherwise, looking really good!

It was only meant to demonstrate what happens if you leave two plants growing close to each other!

I do wonder whether I should "net" the Parsnips against Carrot Fly; I'd like to try the experiment to see whether they are, in part a least, a cause of subsequent canker.

Nicky's not like "Oh Maureen ... She's Cheap" then?!!

I find MySupermarket.co.uk very useful. First time I used it an used the "swap advisor thingie" it saved me about 10% on my shop, having made those changes "permanent" I guess its saved me the same 10% on every shop since ... and sometimes it usefully tells me that 2x smaller ones is cheaper than 1x my normal size ...

But they've grossly over-complicated the styling, IMHO, and that slows me down hugely compared to the old days ... splitting the Favourites across multiple pages means I have to dodge back/forward to complete my list, and the current "one-by-one" method of "swap advisor" is infinitely slower than the previous all-on-one page version - most of the things I am NOT going to swap, having to go into each one, separately to see whether there is anything that I might actually want takes ages.

I get CashBack of a couple of quid every shop now too ...

But I've never done the "buy half from your normal supermarket and the other half, cheaper, from a different one" - anyone go to the trouble of doing that?

Yes, all the time as when you're retired and time rich/money poor it makes all the difference.

But very often you're actually better off buying 'expensive' from somewhere offering a moneysaving voucher off your shop, etc. (ask Pamdish how she saved this way), then claiming the difference back (from somewhere selling what you've bought cheaper elsewhere) using various supermarkets 'price guarantees'.

For example I'll probably be using some Tesco Clubcard points to 'double up' and buy some frozen vegetarian food (plus use all the £X off a £XX shop vouchers around at the moment), but mainly only stuff that's on offer for cheaper elsewhere (Tesco's stopped all special offers on frozen stuff when this started) so I can claim back the difference and get the best of both several offers.

I know this is going rather off topic for parsnip tips, but it doesn't take that long to save quite a few quid a week. Last year there was something similar to this offer http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/essentials-c24hbw09-hand-blender-white-04133631-pdt.html where you got a £10 voucher from Currys (curried parsnip soup is nice - trying to stay on topic) if buying something for £4.99, but last year there was no min spend for redemption of the vouchers. Currys also inadvertently both issued £10 vouchers both when buying the products instore PLUS sent £10 vouchers via email to all those who'd reserved online to collect/pay instore, so we made a real killing, especially those spent on reduced stuff.

There's not always savings about, when when there is we go for it big time.

This is White Gems just how I like them, short & fat and weighing 750g each. Not your long, straight 'showing' parsnips but just right for my heavy clay soil. If all the other ones sown in toilet roll tubes come up looking like this I'll be happy.

Well I must admit that some did end up looking rather like this [IMG]

But most of them have been as in post #103 above, and I now have 3 bin bags of toilet roll tubes awaiting parsnip sowing.
