Apparently Dolphins enjoy being in a tank.. in a captured environment (ie a zoo).. we think they would hate it, but apparently they love it because they get fed on command. In fact zoo-bound dolphins ended up dictating when their human counterparts gave them food with a shrewd plan, that even humans may struggle to think of.. dolphins truly wrapped their 'trainers' around their fingers.

There are two schools of thought though, that a) either dolphins save humans because they have a deep emotional, empathatic and intelligent connection with us, or they are doing it either by playing with us (keeping the sharks away may be a way of saying, my toy), or they are hoping they get food out of it.

They are certainly intelligent, and not far behind humans in intelligence terms, but do they feel empathy towards us, like some humans feels towards Dolphins.. I guess we'll have to ask one!

Think that might be the other way round Stephen, don't see them killing each other because of what their imaginary friend says or robbing each other for little bits of paper:dunno:

They have been observed fighting over territory, resources, and women though.

hahaha.. we're all dolphins at heart!

In Mediterranean culture, to see a dolphin on a sailing voyage usually signals good luck ahead... probably because the sailors know if they sink, they'll probably be saved!

I recently ordered an Albizzia off a dolphin on e-bay.

(now who needs the help?, certainly not the dolphin :snork:)

        Its not just Mediterranean culture.

I'm less convinced about the reason its seen as good luck though. I think its more to do with the fact that dolphins always know where the best fish currently are, so if you're a fisherman and you see dolphins near your boat, there's a good chance there's going to be good fishing to be done. Just a shame that some fishermen see dolphins as rivals.
