Here's an extract from the Amateur Gardening Magazine that might interest those of us who have ponds or water features.

Garden Centres are to be banned from selling five non-native aquatic plant species, to prevent them escaping into the environment.
From 2014, retailers will no longer be able to sell Water Fern, Parrots Feather, Floating Pennywort, Australian Swamp Stonecrop [New Zealand Pygmyweed], and Water Primrose. Floating Pennywort, which grows up to 8" [20cm] a da, cost £23.5 million to control. In the past, these plants have been sold and planted in garden ponds, but escaped into the wild and took over from Native Plants.

Surely its abit late to ban something that has already escaped.
Locking doors and bolted horses come to mind.
