Indoor chilli plants

    Bonjour,

    I'm wanting to grow an indoor chilli plant that wont get too big.

    Its going to be on my kitchen window which is south facing.

    I'd prefer a mild chilli.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

      My guess is that they should do ok indoors, as long as you can supply good light, humidity and heat:blue thumb:

        My Anaheims grew to about 3 feet in the conservatory last year.

        wow thats big! ideally i was wanting a plant that would grow to around 2 foot.

        Could i just nip off the tip to stunt its growth?

        Good! I've also been thinking today, i could try planting in a smaller pot than usual ie. bonsaii style (but not that small).

        Surely a smaller pot will stunt growth. As long as i feed well it should produce the chilli's

        I tried growing some Naga Jolokia last year (3 seeds per pack :th scifD36: ), none germinated in time.

        2 obviously did nothing and the remaining one has been steadily growing over the winter months, so hopefully I will be able to bring that on this year.

          just researched that chilli, you must have an asbestos mouth!

          It must hurt to go to the toilet after eating them!

          I am not that 'asbestos' like :) , but could make great fun getting someone to eat one ...... Obviously with the obligatory yogurt standing by :snork:

            Hi craig, there are many dwarf chilli plants you could try, a garden center favoutite would be demon red. Can grow up to 30cm x 30cm and produces masses of chillis for the size of plant, these are perfect for cooking. You could also try little elf or something dwarf along those lines. Regarding restricting pot size, definately wouldnt recommend it, it will have the desired effect, but at the same time the plant will become route bound and subsequently will lead to a very unhealthy plant which will produce very little fruit and very poor quality fruit. That is unless your well versed with growing bonsais and the specific care they require around the rootzone. Just chopping the top off wont specifically work either, this could have the same effect as topping of fim'ing (look this up im not defining it on here sorry) which in turn could foce side growth and would lead to a difficult to care for bushy plant, which again unless allowed to flourish on the side shoots would not produce much fruit. In short if you want a nice compact plant that produces masses of fruit aim for something bred for purpose. You could also try some f1 apache super prolific compact plants. Hope this helps.

              Not really, personally anyway, but then, when used in moderation even something such as a trinidad scorpion moruga blend can be mild :biggrin: :blue thumb:

              Thank you very much! you have helped me loads! i've researched those dwarf varities you have mentioned, they look a tad too hot for me. However, now that i realise there are dwarf variaties, i have found one that i think may be ok for me... F1 Cheyenne dwarf.

              Before i order the seeds, does this look like a decent chilli?
