Horse meat.

Anything made from processed meat has been know to be the lowest of the low for years.
And if you then continue to buy it.
Can you really complain.
After all they are cheap.

The only difference now is, we are being told why they are cheap.

 

Or is Quorn really vegetarian - OMG I've just Googled it and just look at what they put in it!

That's made me double my Donkey Sanctuary raffle ticket order.

 

When I was a kid, we kept horses. That also meant we mingled with plenty of other horse owners/keepers, so I encountered a great number of them when I was a kid. It was a standard joke in those days that a horse that was slow, old, poorly, otherwise not very fit, was a 'tin of corned beef on legs'.

 

I don't know about what happened last night, but apparently all Waitrose burgers/etc. are specially prepared first thing everyday, before the horses, donkeys, goats, dogs, etc. get chucked into the mincer:

OK,John, so should Donkey meat be cheaper than horse meat?
I tend to see less donkeys than horses.

Is food really expensive?
If you look at the trolleys in the supermarkets I dont think so, most are totally stacked, even though we are going through a bad time.
Bear in mind a good part of that in the trolley will be thrown away, and you have to ask are we really going through a recession.

I always seem to be at the hole in the wall getting more ££ out than I used to. I tend to spend a bit more attention scanning the items on offer.
Like today in my local Budgens: Twinings Everyday Teabags -£3.95 for 80
" " "" " " " - £4.00 for 160
So, I bought the latter of course - stockpiled under the stairs until required.

I got totally ripped off over christmas at a certain supermarket that will remain unnamed, but lets say its name starts with 'Tes' and ends in something like 'co'.

Among my shopping, I'd included among other things, a bottle of red wine (priced up special offer, £4) and 500g of horse mince on special offer for £3. Wife checked the receipt when I got home. The wine was £10, and the mince was nearly a fiver. By then it was a bit too late to go back and argue the point, so the lesson is, check everything.

They're not the only ones though. Was in Wilkinsons at the weekend buying 6 cheap seed trays, when the lad decided right at that moment that he needed the loo. I left my wallet and the trays with wife to sort out while I took the lad to the loos. When I got back, wife said 'those trays came to £35 is that right?'. I was straight back in the shop. I got my money back, but I wonder how many people don't check these things properly.

It wouldn't surprise me if the shops do it on purpose, with the view that they'll simply pass it off as an innocent mistake if they get challenged, in order to boost their profits.
