My Garden's Working Progress

It looks beautiful JJ!! Glad they did such a good tidy job. Just in time for the coming of spring and planting. Oh can't wait to see what you make it into!!!

 

Did some planting up yesterday but feel quite exhausted the amount of plants I had to move.

Need to find some more herbs to plant in my herb border along the house. So far I have rosemary, thyme, fennel and mint. Can anyone recommend some really useful herbs for cooking, I have some peppermint and chocolate mint growing in the garden, But haven't really used them in cooking. I just like the smell they give off.

 

Should also add that now the paving is done, all efforts are being put into getting a gate installed. Other half is currently building an arch to go above the gate, connecting the two fencing panels either side. The gate will be a double one, frame and panel, with windows in it of some sort.

This is what it currently looks like. Lots of shaping it required on this, but you get the general idea.

 

Chives, garlic chives, lemon thyme and bay are all nice JJ.

 

Not sure if I have room for a bay, though it would be useful. Has anyone had much success growing them in pots?

Garlic chives I tried growing last year and they didn't germinate for me

 

My bay is in a pot. It's gotten really big too! I got it as a young plant at the garden centre. It's pretty easy to keep them clipped, though, so they don't have to get too big. My garlic chives I also bought from the garden centre and are in a pot. I took it in the greenhouse for the winter and kept it fairly dry. I will tidy it up and repot it pretty soon.

 

Popular as a potted plant, so should be fine

 

How big a pot is that bay in and how big is that bay? It looks HUGE!

 

JJ, don't plant mint directly into the ground, it'll run riot and it's difficult to get rid of once it's there.

 

It's a pretty good size. You have to drag the pot to move it. No WAY could you lift it. I've had it quite a few years now. I have other larger plants in even larger pots too.......

 

I've kept my mint plants in pots since I bought them and sunk them into the ground. When I dug them up to move them I found that there were several runners escaping from the top of the pot.

I thought this was the way they were meant to be kept at bay?
