Thanks Strongy . I thought the first one was a Cormorant of some sort. I guess you meant that the fifth could be the Crow.

Anyone know what the cute little black one is, in the second picture?

 

Here's a few of the visitors in the garden today while I was braving the biting cold in the Arbour with a mug of hot tea and Jenny the cat sitting beside me.

Yesterday was a busy one for the birds in the garden. Whilst I was having lunch indoors - another soft southerner the area around the bird feeders was crowded with birds. Haven't seen so many around for a long time.

Seven female and one male pheasant, three pigeons, two magpies, four collared doves, one lesser spotted woody and one green woody, 13 blackbirds either fighting or getting frisky, three robins, two wrens, one thrush, one goldfinch, two bullfinches and about a dozen chaffinches, something in excess of 30 greenfinches, lots of blue tits, great tits and longtailed tits, just a few sparrows and, what appeared from a distance to be, a gold crest.

I've never seen a gold crest in the garden so early in the year.

They got through about two kilos of seed yesterday!!!

we rarely see the lesser spotted but the Great Spotted live in the poplars at the back of the garden, as do the green woodies. The Great Spotted come to the feeder all the time and the green seem to like the lawn by the summerhouse. I've never seen the green digging in the front lawn.

We always have lots of greenfinches around but hardly ever see any goldfinches. The nyjer seed feeder is really a waste of time and the seeds are hardly ever touched.

Please tell IHA that I'm always lazing around nice and snug in the lounge with a cuppa in my hands . That list yesterday was all spotted during lunch.

At 7 a.m. this morning only the pheasants were out. There were eleven females and no other bird in sight.
