What Jobs Are We Doing in the Garden Today... MK3.. 2013

Wish my garden looked that smart and ordered at ANY time of the year.

Although the OCD in me takes over. Mrs al goes nuts sometimes!!!

 

Just come round to mine anytime she goes OTT on your OCD and I'll put it to good use !!

 

Went to the allotment today to get an hour's winter digging done - stayed 1 3/4 hours despite the cold and got the digging finished. Well Pleased with that - never finished before April before!!!
Just got to get the fork out and start going over it all to make sure it's weed-free before I start planting too much.

 

I potted on Antirrhinum and white Lupin seedlings today and washed the last of the pots and trays I didn't get round to doing last autumn. I'll get those tucked away so I can spring clean the greenhouse later in the week.

 

Replaced the 30 year old and rotting wood on the sides of the compost heap with uPVC cladding. Now got a rather posh looking heap that won't rot or need treating with preservative.

 

The cladding's a good idea Dave. Thirty years for the wood is good going. I had to replace two tree stakes last year that had rotted through, they'd only been in two years.

 

That original wood was pine slab wood from a local sawmill, it was 2.5 to 1 inch thick and in earlier years I gave it a coat of creosote every year. It was mainly the lower rails that were badly rotten. I'd a heck of a job pulling out all the 6 inch nails!

Was going to use ordinary wooden boards, but we'd some uPVC left from a job on our dormer that we had done last month.

The green rails are capable of sliding so I can open each side of the heap separately.

How about starting a new thread: what jobs should I have been doing in the garden today?
That would be: feeding the walnut tree with compost; making a start on pulling the nettles in the churchyard (also my garden, more or less), and general tidying up.
But it's cold, and I've been doing (useful!) things on the computer.

X-Ray, Cardiac ECG test ?, Blood test, then home to sort the greenhouse out ready
Made a new potting table, sorted left side of GH, compost tamp and rake, move pots then transfer tables over, So I can do the otherside tomorrow :-)
