This is my garden, HJS, which is possibly something like the style you're thinking of. I use roses and small shrubs as hard points with the main emphasis on Herbaceous Perennials as they are vast in range, they'll romp away in the Spring, Summer and Autumn, disappear in the Winter and then reappear in the next Spring.

You can always store the memories of the four Seasons in a picture, Cacadores.:snork: It helps get us gardeners through a dark, cold, wet, miserable Winter:coffee: :hapydancsmil:

Those are really your four seasons? Where do you live - Tenerife?

I wish!!:heehee: .............Well, no, actually I don't. I'm quite happy with the contrasts of Seasons that we get here in the UK, even with our dark, grey, depressing Winters.
But having a Cottage style garden full of flowers, colours, texture, and scent is something I wouldn't swap.........especially for Tenerife:snork: :coffee:

Oh come on. Wandering out of bed and onto a perfect beach for a swim before breakfasting on freshly picked oranges? Eating sea food while watching another fantastic sunset. Nights out under the stars? Laughing at the heating bill.
Not tempeted just a weeny bit?

                I don't know about ARMANDII but I know I'm not tempted :)

I, also, love the changing seasons.
The song of the many variety of birds all around me throughout the year.
The lovely crisp winter mornings with most of them being bright.
The wonder of the fresh growth coming through the ground in the early spring, quickly supplanted by the vibrant colours and scents as they come into flower.
The quiet, but not silence, of the calm summer days with the heady aroma of the flowering trees enabling us to sit in the warm shade in the company of good friends. The softer tones of autumn sitting in the warmth and gentle glow of the lowering sun suffusing the air.
Eating any food we wish from any part of the world.
Having plenty of wonderful sunrises and sunsets to watch - just look at Woo's superb photos :blue thumb:
Being able to cry, in the company of friends, at the heating bills. :heehee:

I've been to most parts of the world and definitely enjoyed what they have to offer but you can't beat "England's green and pleasant land". :dbgrtmb:

It does sound a bit strange I suppose, Cacadores, but I wouldn't swap the UK for another country as a place of residence.:dunno: :snork: I've been to most of the countries in the Mediterranean, the Middle East and as far as Japan and China, although I was on a job while in Japan and didn't see as much as I wanted to.
If I was to give up the UK and go somewhere else to live there are just two countries where I really "connected", the first being Kenya and the second being Cyprus. I'd find a quiet spot in either place and enjoy life, but I would never swim off the beaches of Kenya because I know what's in the sea!!!
No, the UK has it's faults, it's unpredictable weather, and all that, but the countryside can be stunning and unbeatable despite the beauty of other countries, so I'm a hopeless case I'm afraid.:coffee:

Not tempted huh? I don't have the complection for sunny places anyway. The English countryside is great but combine that with a country pub after a long walk and there's nothing to beat it.

Off to the garden centre today to have a mooch. I'm after herb type plants to go in pots round the decking area that can be viewed from our kitchen. Also might pick up another photina to go in the same location as the other one (which amazingly hasn't died!) but on the opposite side.

Well that trip wasn't so successful! Baby girl kicke off so we had to leave the gardening centre early lol.
Managed to pick up some lavender and another plant that I've forgot the name of for some pots near the decking.
We're also bidding on a gorgeous little Wendy house for on top of the decking on the right. Auction ends on Sunday.

Have picked up dads jet wash so will hopefully do the stones and decking on Sunday weather permitting.

                        Hi guys
Had a good go with the jet wash and what a difference! Forgot to take a photo of the after shot, but here's an in progress pic!

Not sure the Photina is doing too well post move - looks a little droopy. Have watered it again and its raining tonight, so hopefully will pick up soon. We were really careful with the roots too :dunno:
