Hmmm ... I wonder if something wrong with that supplier's seed ... Imported? I wonder if it went through x-ray in customs - could that wreck seeds? Froze in transit? although both those things seem a bit improbable to me

Maybe they haven't looked after their seeds properly, or old season's stock?

Unlikely to be that if its a reputable supplier though ...

    No - don't do that !!!!

I've got millions of them ... send me a PM with your address and let me know how many you want and I'll pop them in the piost.

I chipped mine with nail clippers, put in a wet kitchen towel then into a zip bag. The rooted like mad within 1 week to the extent it was difficult to get the towel off the roots again. I then potted up. Works a treat.

Hi Mowgley , thinking off your poor Canna germination - and remember GC never leave a man behind .. Last year a few of us grew french beans indoors with poor germination. Now for my flower seeds I always water the seed compost in my potting tray so it is just wet enough to hold together without dripping water. What I call "just wet". I then put the compost into my seed trays and plant the seeds without any more watering. Now I just sloshed water over the bean seeds - and had poor germination. Tried the just wet compost - 100% :hapydancsmil:Might work on your cannas ?
