What's Buzzing or Flying near You Today..?? Mark 2..!!

    At 04:40 during the dawn chorus I heard a cuckoo.
    We do not hear many of those here in the Vale.

    Its strage we had the swallows first then the house marting and the swifts arrived yesterday

    Hi all
    New insect to me feeding from my Wisteria floweres I have never seen it before ,

    and it wasnt a bumble bee before any one mentions it so....


    Size of a very large bumble bee jet black purple blue wings , and could fly as fast as a huming bird moth and could hover as well.

    I will have a google and see what I can find out

    Follow up to that bee thing I saw yesterday,
    I had to register on anothjer forum "Wild about Britain" and I have been told it was a

    Carpenter bee Xylocopa Violacea


    And its the first official sighting of the year ( we can tick that off our forum list ) we saw it first !!!

    It was huge shiney black with purple blue wings

    Took a photo of the bees flying in and out of the holes made by my fork tines.
    Id be grateful for an ID please, if possible.

    If you want to look at one put in Violet Carpenter bee in to google , you will understand why I coudnt believe my eyes !!

    When I was telling the guy in work about the huge bee he told me he had one of those May bugs sitting on the pillow next to his wife LOL and didnt want to tell her and to freeked out to move it himself it finaly droped on to the floor and he got a glass and flicked it out the window and told the wife it was a fly LOL

    Hi Melinda, if the bees you have are the same as the ones we have in our front lawn they are miner bees.

    I looked them up and found they are harmless, so I have left them to it.:phew:
