Oh woe is me! I messed up some of my seedlings.

I did five trays (on a heat mat) of seedlings which all germinated nicely and were moved to the window and all seem to be doing ok.

I did another five trays and one of them developed a white growth. I read that this was something to do with damping off and that not enough air had got into the propogator. So, the one with the growth I shoved outside the back door because I did not know whether I should bin it or throw it on the compost heap. The growth seems to have disappeared! Should I bring it back in or bin it or compost it?

The other four that were still on the heat mat, I lifted the propogator lids for a couple hours a day to let some air in. Nothing has germinated after a week. Did I lift the lids for too long? Can I do anything or are these now a lost cause?

    Help !

    Hi John,

The one that developed the growth is campanula carpatica F1 white

The ones that haven't germinated are armeria maritima alba, campanula tiny bells bush, prunella freelander and saxifrage arendsii

Damping Off doesn't show as a "mould" in my experience, so I reckon it was just some sort of fungus stimulated by very high moisture levels. If the container has dried off a bit I'll go back to what you were doing before and let it continue "trying". If the fungus comes back take the lid of / let it dry out some more.

If you have more of the seed you might want to sow another "reserve" container of them?

    Hi Kirsten,
Thanks for that .. I'll keep trying with them. And haven't got anymore of those particular seeds but have loads of others waiting to go in.
