what really upset me is that we are spend money and also lets us losing the confidence
also , growing from seeds it should be a chip way to get a plant .......non if you buy lots of dead seeds ........

Pete i`ve learned the lesson .........last year I`ve spend about £65 in a single order of seeds , from a reliable supplier (js)........what i really got at the end , was just 3 ricinus plants.............on the other hand ....all the seeds gatered from all of you did germinate with no problem . .....
the only reliable seeds I had where from moles seeds , offered to me by Kristen

Do you feel better now that you realise that it wasn`t you but the supplier?????

that was the reason why I was sending you the seeds on the first place ......you are not a bad gardner , they are bad seller

      Feel loads better thx sal.
I know it's not rocket science germinating canna seeds but only 1 out of 40 did knock my confidence a little ;)
Hopefully now I will have a lovely bunch of cannas in the front garden

But are they?, if they were aware that they were sending out seed that wasn't viable then yes of course they are, but if they are still unaware that the seed that they are sending out this year has poor viability and germination rates are next to nothing then surely its unfair to call them bad sellers and unreliable?

I find it hard to believe that the supplier in question would deliberately send out 'duff' seed after having several friendly dealings with them myself.

                Just a thought :)

I totally agree with you bilbo.
I've sent them a email saying that I've grown other cannas in the same compost and treated the same way as there's, but they have sprouted.
I've asked them if they have grown any from the same batch too.
It's not just the money aspect of selling duff seeds its also a knock to the confidence to other fellow gardeners!

Hi Bilbo , how you doing ,
I`ve recently noticed that on many seeds bag, there is no more expire date anymore ...
that change from company to company ....and from a personal experience the seeds sold without date are not viables ....I`ve spend a fortune on dead banana and palm seeds .
The same stori happen with the canna rizhomas , few honest seller have burned all the infeted cannas , while other simply didn`t care and but them on the market.

I`ve never ordered from karchesky and maybe with all the new variety they have they use other supplyers as well .....
but let`s say 4 bags at £2 each for one seedling of canna ......not really good

did anyone had other any problem with them ?????

A good seller would replace the batch of seeds , a bad seller will blame you for wrong germination .....let see what happen :)

I found a site recently, for seeds for rare / unusual things, that published the date that the seeds were last harvested. For some rare things the date was a year, maybe two, ago - current season seed-harvest failed presumably - the price was discounted and the harvest-date clearly marked. Good idea I reckon :)

Can't remember who the supplier was though :(

Hi Sal, I'm doing good thanks :dbgrtmb: , you're right, if they are good sellers then once they recieve Mowgley's email and report then I would be surprised if they don't replace the seed or offer a refund :)

Dont I remember, years ago, seed companies doing germination tests on seed before selling them?
Or maybe I'm thinking of something else.
But then if they do a test and then sell them 12 months later I guess there would be no point.
I do think there needs to be some check, by the seller, on viability on each batch of seed sold.
OK, that would probably not work on E Bay and the like, but on there you know you're taking a risk.
