    Not very good quality but I didn't want to keep our large friend to long before I let him out of the window ,he was caught up in the net curtain:)

      Looks a right dozy Herbert bless him! :wub2:Need to ask Spruce about those mites on his shoulders. Maybe or maybe not harmful. I believe some mites just "hitch a ride " :dunno:

      The mites are harmless they live on the Bumble Bee and in the nest's they make some times hitch a ride as in Woos photo , they eat the detritus off the bumble and moulds ie on the pollen in the nest so yes they are mites but do not suck or bite the bumble , they can be a bit of a nuisance as in they are carrying to many off them, you will always see more of them in early spring but as soon as they start nesting they spend more time off the bee looking for food in the nest itself.

      So best to leave alone , they have lived alongside each other for a very long time and recent evidence suggests they may be beneficial to the welfare of the bumble bee.


      If you find a Bumble bee on the floor best to move it to a sunny part of the garden it will soon warm up and take to the air , I usually put them on the fence if its raining to give them a bit of shelter.

              I quite often find bees crawling on the lawns. These are ones that are not collecting pollen from all the clover flowers - we've got lots of them. They seem as though they are very dopey or on their last legs. I usually pick them up on a bit of paper and put them on a table on the patio. I'm never sure whether I'm exposing them to predatory birds. :scratch:

              I always keep a bee-dy eye open when I'm mowing. It can be quite difficult with the more active bees as they don't want to get out of the way of the mower and just continue to collect pollen. Taking the mower right up to them doesn't seem to bother them, although it's a noisy beast and must vibrate the ground.

              Hi Jenny,
              Wasps don't bother me unless they are bothering me! :heehee: I'm happy for them to be around the garden as long as they don't nest here.

              One of the funny sights is during the summer when I'm pressure hosing the patio. A fine spray is thrown up and tends to settle lightly on my jacket. I then get lots of wasps landing on the jacket and delicately drinking the drops. They never get aggresive and I talk to them nicely. :) When I stop working they fly away. :blue thumb:

                I didn't see many Wasps last year for some reason, but I have no problem with them as they pollinate flowers along with the Bees. I did get stung once on the back of the neck while fishing, but that was my fault as I put my hand on the Wasp when he landed and he objected!!!:gaah:

                  Armandii they had a bad time as well , the warm two weeks in March then back to cold and wet all summer I should imagine not that many this year as well as they didnt produce that many Queen wasps to over winter.
