    This might be a stupid question... I bought some flower seeds this afternoon, the packets mostly say sow March/April/May, does it make any difference which of the months I sow them?

    If you're down south, sow in March, if your far in the frozen north, wait til May, everyone else sow in April:)

    I think the dates on the packets are for a rough guide only. It would probably make more sense if they said things like mid winter, late winter, early spring and late spring, because we each tend to have our own ideas based on our locality when those things happen.

      Yep, later rather than sooner in Scotland.

      Don't forget to harden plants off for a week by putting them outside on frost free days and bringing them in at night.

        With the possible exception of parts of the west coast from what I gather, where the north Atlantic drift (or is it the gulf stream) keeps the ambient temperature unusually warm or so I'm told.

          I basically agree with the others plus a lot will depend on what flowers you plan on sowing.

          A few years ago I did a bit of research with Gardeners on various forums and asked them to indicate to me when they planted out their plants, and from the information returned I was able to produce the information shown on the following map;

          I'm in the North West and usually start mine off mid March. This year I started mid February as I have a lot to get through and I'm now paying for it with very little surface space left to house them indoors. It's still to cold to move them to the greenhouse.

          Thanks everyone, we are still having random bouts of snowfall, and still getting frost, so I'll wait til nearing the end of the stated timescales!

          I was eager to get going too lol!
