Peter trust me the most shocking stinky stuff I`ve ever eat is the durian fruit , stink like a rotted garlic , but taste like a sweet banana.

I think the list is more of USA , as there are no mantion of the Pakistany , thailandise , west indi , china and SA.

just been around my local shop and asked about suran (amorphophallus) and he told me that actually suran it`s just the indian name for yam ....need to be specific and he can get them.

while I was there he had some Caribbean dasheen as apparently now is the dasheen season.

I bought some real banana , real because they have actually seeds inside and he even gave me a coconut for free as it wasn`t good to sell. look at it

there is tomato to scale , at the end of the toothpick there are tiny bananas seeds.

Fantastic Sal :love30: , my eddoes although looking attractive and healthy are still quite small at approx 1ft tall, they've been an interesting experiment though :dbgrtmb:

I think I`m just lucky to have more availability of different shop around me......
Still an open chapter to me , as in winter they are getting the eddoes from different countrys and I`m actually tempted to get few more .
If you see the one where I wrote i suspected to by Thai , it`s actually another complete different variety , I suspect it an alocasia , as the leaves are pointing up , the other picture with the 2 leaves i suspected that the one on the right its actually an xanthosoma as I remember the the guy called in a different name and they roots where actually green like a small potatoes.

          Brilliant Sal

Mine are still tiny - but I started late. The one on the left was my original from a small tuber from Morrisons. I like the one on the right which has purple stems - it came from the West Indies. Now if only they would grow to your size Sal.

my west indi eddoes are the one in the 3rd picture , I`ve noticed that some are purple and some have black stem.
Mine are bigger just because i got bigger bulbs and used some root growing as well :dbgrtmb:

Sal - I think the key is to try lots of different ones. Your top one looks as good as any that I might expect from a nursery.

I personally think that the key is the Country of origin , the most interesting are the one from Thailand (lime green) or far east.
the top one If i remember correctly they where from southamerica , I will looking for some more during the year , Chinese shop had some as well , plus my usual shop get them from Southafrica and brazil during winter time , but it`s all about luck as he restock every week from different country.

Mine have been really slow to get going too. I got about 10 tubers from an Asian supermarket back in May, I picked out tubers that were showing green buds, they only cost 80 pence for about a dozen. I've lost half of them, some rotted others were eaten. Anyway the survivors are just starting to make a reasonable show:

This one looked nice with early morning dew so I was trying to get an 'arty' style photos of the water droplets, then I noticed someone trying to get into the picture at the bottom:
