First garden morning of the year. Pruned all roses, dead headed Hydrangea, severely chopped the Buddleia, mowed the lawn and trimmed my Virburnam.

Im really thinking about moving the tree i planted 18 months ago to further back in the border. I just think its too close. Not sure really how it will do but the best time to move it is now i suppose but will need the wife’s help i think.

Just moved the Sorbus tree. It just hasnt looked right since i made the path, too close, so i dug it up and moved it closer to the house but 2 feet further back in the border. Im much happier. I was suprised of the lack of a root run on the tree. Its been in 18 months now but hardly any root spread. So it came up easily. I dug a bigger hole, added feed and loads of special shrub and tree compost and will keep it well watered.

Another good day. Divided a big clumb of Day Lilly then re planted. I have two clumps left if anyones wants them, i dont post though :hapydancsmil: Anyone close by, pop in a take them :blue thumb:
I planted a divded clump of Geranium to an area with plenty of late colour so hopefully will get a bit of June interest there. I sowed my Marigold seeds and mulched the Box hedge.
Phew, that was enough. Even feel a bit pink.

Very strange weather. I took the kids to school and it was the coldest ive been in a long time. Blizzard snow overnight, a wind that hurt your hands and face it was so cold. It was horrible BUT the sun game out around 11am and out of that wind its very warm. Very strange feeling. Winter and Spring in one day. The snow melts in the sun but stays where there's shade. I thought the garden would suffer but Mr Crocus is showing off now the snow has melted from around his collar.

My 30 Ilex Crenata arrived today. Didnt realise they were going to be that small but i read and hear that they can grow a foot a season so will probably be 3 to 4 years before i have a good hedge. Faster than my Box though. Its going to be interesting to compare them.

Very cold, windy and wet. Horrible. Cant do much apart from move all my potted up plants and dig up some weeds. I also pruned some roses and the Sambucus.

Trying to sort out a couple of days with my Dad to re-lay that top corner of the path and re lay the wall. Once thats done i can do the raised beds for the kids veg patch and Ilex hedge.

Made the mistake of doing some gardening today after yesterday’s rain. Silly really, it was too wet and claggy but i felt like i needed to be out there. I dug up and removed a patch of Monarda. The area that they are in has sunk a bit a gets a bit wet. It also suffers from a bit of bind weed. Dont get be wrong, i like the Monarda but the area had loads of weeds so i decided to have it all away. Monarda roots do not go deep, really on the surface so i dug them up, turned the gray claggy soil and added loads of compost. I then removed as much bind weed root as i could find. I might have to add a bit more compost when it settle to raise that suffice but it was a small job that i needed to do. Just find a window soon where we get some dry weather for me to dig up, move and plant my new border.
