Got these the other day from wilko's for 25p
Thought that they were worth a go at saving.
Given them a good watering and put them on top of the fire place, there improving already

 

Received a £7.50 discount voucher form Unwins today 'cos I bought 10 x Begonia "Apricot Shades" tubers ( which I must start off now) so I went online and bought Campanula "Iridescent Bells". 3 young plants =£9.95 + £4.95p&p =£14.90 - £7.50 thank you voucher = £7.40 to pay

I'm a sucker for Campanulas but these are a new strain which are grown for a patio pot

 

That's a big discount on 10 tubers Jenny!

I saw 5 Brahia Armata in our local indie GC had just arrived and couldn't restist one.
They were priced the same as the one I bought from the Palm Centre 5 years ago!
They are not cheap as they are very slow growing but I got my 10% discount which brought it down to £31.50, the Palm Centre ones the same size are now nearly £50!!

They like Butias are slow growing and reasonably cold tolerant but really grow better in warm/hot summers, not much chance of that here!

 

My new Azaleas arrived today

They, and the other Rhododendrons I got last week have all been allocated planters which currently have plants in but which need to be potted on. So I treated myself to four of these babies from Costco, for a bargainous £16.79 including VAT each If I'd bought something that large (25 inch diameter) from a garden centre, I'd hate to think how much they would have cost.



I was going to get half wine barrels, but they are incredibly heavy and would have been a nightmare for me to move about, even before they were filled.

 

Went back to Costco today and got another two of the barrel planters, plus another two smaller ones which cost about £15 each including VAT. Went to B&Q after Costco and compared the prices of their planters for a similar size


I also bought ten Dahlias (Peach Brandy/Lilac Time) for under £10



Don't know whether that's a bargain or not. Some of the packs of summer bulbs had 70 mixed for £15, but I wouldn't know where to put them all. Maybe next year when I've had a trial run with the Dahlias I'll feel a bit more confident about planting them out (plan to put the Dahlias in containers).

I also bought 300L of ericaceous compost and 60L of MP compost from B&Q. Would have got more but I couldn't move it all myself. B&Q have been sneaky and put the price of the GP compost up to £12 for 3 (was £10 last year) I'll be shopping around to see where better bargains can be had.

 

Love the barrel Planters Merle - they look very sturdy. Are they real or composite?

They are some sort of composite/resin type stuff. The manufacturer's (Southern Planter) website says they are PolyLam (some invention of theirs I presume) which is three times stronger than fibreglass but very light. They are also insulated (double walled construction) so they give the roots more protection

I've only seen them in Costco so you do have to be a member to buy them - maybe you know someone who is?

 

Hi they are very nice, and great for the price. I noticed in Homebase the other day that they are selling some wooden barrels half price from £24.00 to £12.

 

10 Dahlias for a Tenner is a bargain. Only thought is that the bag looks quite small, so the Dahlias probably are too, and the fleshy roots may have dried out - I would get the potted and start them off with some heat so they have a long growing season, and have enough time to bulk up.

 

From the photo I think they look better than the real thing
