Harvested my first Bridgwater Bean - Honestly !!

A few weeks ago I made a viability test on saved Bridgwater bean seeds, and potted them up in 3.1/2" pots. Left them on the window-ledge in the kitchen. They climbed up through a large houseplant and 'lo and behold' - today I saw two beans about 4" long. So, immediately cut them, gave them a quick boil - WOW that wonderfull flavour!! - sadly must now wait until June / July for the beans from our community garden poly-tunnel to be ready.

Alex I'll be planting the Bridgwater beans you kindly sent me last year , next month . They must be very productive !

 

Hi Harry, - April is OK if your'e growing them in a glasshouse or p/tunnel, but wait until late May / early June outside. - Keep me advised on progress. -

Btw, remind us, how do they compare to Runner and French beans?

They are a type of French Bean, personally I think they are the finest tasting of any French bean I've grown. Not as productive as runners of which I only grow Scarlet Emperor, and I do prefer the Bridgwaters for flavour.

Hiya Alex, thanks for that. I'll have to try them at some stage. I assume they have a similar cropping period to French Beans?

 

I have 2 in my hand now, just gonna plant them on the windowsill

 

They've both germinated

 

I ended up putting them in a jar with wet tissue, 4 inches away from my computer fan.
