Willow loves Purple Cabbage, she calls it magic cabbage as it changes colour when you put vinegar on it:)

I think we have a natural aversion to colours that are not the 'norm'. I bet they taste really good though:)

The wild Carrot has got a purple root, the victorians bred it into an orange one & we've now accepted that as the right colour for Carrots.

When I used to get called Carrot Top at school, i'd look the bully in the eye and ask him/her what exactly is the colour of a Carrot top then?

I read that carrots were all purple until one day when orange ones turned up as a totally unexpected and unintended consequence of selective breeding. A bit like Anne Boleyn having 6 fingers on one hand because of inbreeding.

For real? There was someone that actually said that? I'm aware of the term 'carrot top' when referring to people with ginger hair but I thought it only existed in comics and stuff. I didn't realise there were actual people who actually thought it was a genuinely creative insult. Perhaps your school bully was 'intellectually challenged'.

As an aside, a ginger haired friend of mine was known throughout our school years as, among other things, 'Wiley Kayote', and for a while, 'ginger mortis'. I have absolutely no idea where the latter name came from. I guess it just shows how a label doesn't need to have any basis in normal reality.

I would happily eat any purple veg, after all, how is a purple brussels sprout much different from a red cabbage? Or a purple strawberry much different from a blackberry?

My experience of purple potatoes hasn't been good, but that was because they were so starchy they were quite hard to get down!

Carrot Top, Rusty, Duracell, Ginger Pubes, Copper Nob etc...

Didn't mind it if it was said friendly, the school caretaker used to call me Rusty. As for the rest of them...Wasn't happy.

Ahh, didn't realise it was a one off mutation, thats interesting:)

I feel a bit left out now. Being of average intellect, average height and build, dark brown hair, fair skin, average athletic ability, I didn't really have a nickname at school. I got my fair share of aggro, but the best people could do when trying to talk down to me was to refer to me by my surname on its own, which, probably to the annoyance of people who were trying to be bullies, I didn't consider to be an insult.
