As a suggestion you could use three / four split canes around each onion and wind twine around them to form a funnel / tube arrangement, then allow the onion leaves to grow within.

Note the canes would have to be positioned to allow for the onion swelling!

Mine won't have that luxury. Once they get to a good size, that'll do:)

I bought some split canes today, and I'll probably utilise some soft wire to form a hoop arrangement.

            Progress so far:-

            80 Kelsaes potted on.

40 Long Red Florence potted on with more to go.

10 Bedfordshire Champion (from the first, low germination sowing) potted on.

2nd sowing of Bedfordshire Champions (fresh seed) done, these I'll transplant directly into the bed I've prepared on the allotment.

Another 80 Bedfordshire's and that should hopefully do us for a whole year! :yay:

              Hiya Vince.

Been a bit busy myself today. First of all, I made up some supports for my 25 Kelsae, they're getting a bit tall now:) Put some Hytech into root trainers (a bit of an experiment to see how they do in root trainers). Sowed those LRF you kindly sent me:blue thumb: Also sowed some Santero I had left over from last year.

              Cheers...Freddy

It's only the 18 Kelsaes I'll be growing on in my purpose raised bed that'll be getting any support, the rest can fend for themselves on the allotment, I'll be using a "Heath Robinson" method of support, a criss cross of wires, easily removed more hoeing.

                Hiya folks.

At what point do we think that light levels will be good enough to enable turning off the lighting?

It's very gloomy in my g.house and in the veg plot at the moment Freddy, I'm only recording 2,000 Lux (compared to 20,000 under my growlights). Mine are staying under the lights for the time being.

                  Hiya John.

Thing is, we've had a few days of sunny conditions, and I thought maybe I could take advantage?

You're lucky to be getting sunny days Freddy. Sooner or later they will have to be moved into natural light, but do you need the growlights for other plants? If not I'd be inclined to wait for a few more weeks.

Freddy, I think you got a light meter? What sort of readings are you getting?
