This is a general photography question but applies particularly to the photo competition...

If i don't log-in to the forums, when I look at the thread containing photos I see some photos full size and some as thumbnails (including mine). If I log-in then I see all photos full size.

So, how do people attach a photo and get it to show full size even when the viewer is not logged in?

FYI I am using "Upload File" to attach photos to the post as I am using an ipad and I can't figure out how to use the image icon in the editing toolbar.

I'm sure we've had this query several weeks or so ago and the answer was that non-members (or logged out members) only get to see thumbnails of uploaded images (and that's throughout the site, not just in competition threads), but images posted as links to image hosting sites (such as photobucket) will display full size

Got it in one scrungee..! :dbgrtmb:

If you want to use an image host such as photo bucket then you would upload the photo to photobucket or other such host.. Then usually when getting the link for it choose "Direct" copy it & then paste it into the image box from the tool bar above.. When you OK it it will then display full size in your post..

Thanks for the responses. As a relative newbie on the forums I hadn't seen the earlier post.

I tried a photo I've stored on Photobucket. I click on the image icon in the toolbar and then paste the direct link between the two tags and this happens:

If I use the link icon:

Follow up question:(perhaps needing a new thread?) what do people think of different photo sharing sites. I used to use Photobucket but really don't like their incessantly flickering adverts. I've also used Flickr but my personal favourite at the moment is Picasa Web Albums. Lots of features plus ease of integration with Picasa Photo Editor.

PS I'm using an iPad and it doesn't always do things in the same way as a PC. I'll have to go and wind up the PC and have a try on there.

I can't access photobucket today, its meant to be switching over to the "new improved (terrible)" Beta site, but when I try to switch I just get an "Oops, google can't connect" message:doh:

OK one of your problems could be Picassa I don't think their codes work on here for some reason.. I use P/bucket or ImageShack & have no problems with them, but like you I don't like the PB adverts..
Have you tried deleting the "IMG" icons in the box before you paste your URL in.? It might work that way with just your URL & nothing else..

Are you trying to display this collection ( http://s860.photobucket.com/user/PGH_photo/library/Frosty autumn scenes ) of 6 frosty scene pics between img tags? (because that's what your link appears to be, rather than a single pic), because that will display like this (as in your post above) [IMG]

But if you select an individual image code (from Image Links - and it's already got the img tags) for one of those pics it will display like this

Scrungee, I intended to post a link to a single photo but somehow managed to get the link for the album. :oopss: . Thanks for spotting that and putting me back on the right track.

That appears as if it might be a separate issue that hasn't been answered yet.

Using a PC/laptop, you get the option of whether to display and image as a either a thumbnail or full size - is that not happening with an ipad?

          thumbnail1.png

So clicking on Thumbnail will display it like that:

          thumbnail2.png

And selecting Full Image will display full size

            Scungee

The following screenshot shows (if I've got it right) what I see on the iPad after pressing the image icon in the toolbar, ie it pastes the img tags in and you can then paste the link between them. I don't get the opportunity to select "thumbnail" or "full size".

            image.jpg

I've attached the above image using "Upload File" and in this case, like on your screenshot, I get the option to select "thumbnail" or "full size".

So if I properly understand everything I've learned on here today, I should be able to post a Photobucket image as below
