There was an offer on at my local Garden Centre for a certain brand of MPC, so I bought two bags.

The trouble is IT STINKS! The smell is a combination of "rank", "sour" and "have you been using solvent?"!

I did plant a few seeds but have had to remove them to an unused room as I keep catching whiffs.
My question, really, is: Is it OK to use for seeds, small plug plants etc? I thought perhaps of putting it at the bottom of my tubs or just chucking it on the borders.
I bought some different stuff and it smells of - compost! so have been using that now.
What do other members think? Is it just old compost?
I'm sure someone will have the answer.....

It doesn't sound right for sowing seeds in. I'd take it back and complain or ring the GC.

I had a bag of JAB that smelt ,as Spruce said prob old damp stock . I planted bulbs in it which are doing OK . Would not risk seeds in it though . I'd take one bag back if its not to far away, spread the other into your borders.

                Thanks for those replies.
I think I'll just use it on the borders or bottom of tubs. Taking it back would rather defeat the "special offer" effect - but then I'm not getting much of an offer anyway! Might phone up. Haven't got a receipt of course - who keeps those sorts of receipts??
