One way of allowing people to live longer is building higher... if we build super structures that are 1000's metres high, then we could house significant populations in them, that way we don't run out of land as quickly. Everything you need could be build in the super structures; doctors, schools, cafes, markets etc etc.

People living forever, buildings several miles high, living in hives, I'm not looking forward to this future.

No of course you'd be able to go outside, it wouldn't be a prison.. You could visit the commerce areas of other buildings if you wanted a walk.. and things like some stores would be separate.

Continues to get more sinister. How far would I have to walk before I reached the beach or open countryside?

catch the monorail which would give you quick access to anywhere you wanted!

So I'd be effectively trapped in an environment where I had no option but to depend on transport systems outside of my control, just to get to the beach? And the open countryside would be open countryside no more, because it would be full of monorail terminals and tracks?

Well, that's sounds like a great improvement to the quality of Life, Stephen, to be able to actually visit the commerce areas of the buildings!!!. That really sounds like a free, open, invigorating kind of life. Isaac Asimov, one of my favourite Science Fiction writers, wrote "Caves of Steel" where a similar life style is lead, and also the other extreme where other people on a planet live singly far apart from each other. None either an intelligent solution to quality of Life, which is one of the most important things to have as a Human Being while living on this planet.:coffee:

If this is the way it's going to be, I'm taking a one way visit to the local vet! I couldn't live like that. :thud:

Actually, Sheal, I would think you would never have to give the Vet a shilling:heehee: As a species Mankind has never been able to live side by side peacefully because of differences in Race, Culture, Religion, Nationalism, and just plain greed. So Stephen's
is something we have never been able to be since we developed from the Single Cell. In theory if you take a town, district, or even a street as an analogy there is even friction and disputes in those. Can you imagine hundred of thousands of people living in one "hive" peaceably, where the basic needs of life, water, food, heating, air are subject to breakdown etc. It would be a very fragile environment and not a very pleasant one.

I do imagine the future will be like that, quite clean and sterilized.. we wouldn't like it but future generations wouldn't know any different.
