2013 Growing Season

What do you sown them "in" John?

I'm having a rethink about the best "containers" when I have only a few seeds to sow of a particular plant.

I did all my Tomato seeds in rows in a seed tray (5 seeds of each of 10 varieties) which made pricking out a bit fiddly so as not to get the varieties muddled up.

But when I have 3 seeds of X and 10 seeds of Y putting them in the same seed tray is fraught if they germinate at different times, or need different temperature regimes etc.

 

Hey Kristen, I sow mine in 60 cell trays (6x10) and label each row of 6. I use JI seed sowing compost now because I can't get the compost mix I used to use.

 

Pricked out Aji Crystal Chilli's....anyone got any room in there GH i could borrow?

So the problem is: why didn't that occur to me?

I picked the last of my Sprouts today, and cleared out the bed. Pulled up my Leeks, which didn't perform as I would have liked/expected. Sowed my Tomatoes destined for the greenhouse border. Sowed some Rocket into a half tray for growing under cover. I would normally have sown some Carrots under a cloche by now, they'll have to wait until it warms up a bit. I've got some Lettuce (Webbs) in the greenhouse which will need planting out in a few weeks, again, under a cloche. I got hold of some 'All The Year Round' Lettuce which I'll sow in a couple of weeks. I also have some Cabbage (Hispi) in the greenhouse which are starting to grow nicely, so I'll plant these out in a couple of weeks, under a cloche to start with.

 

Cabbage, Sprouts, Cauli and Calabrese, all doing nicely, even her indoors, requested borecole and spinach, done! dunno where she's going to put it because I've virtually acquired all of the garden and allotment, I'll find her a bit somewhere, 150 miles up the motorway would be nice?

 

My Rocket and Lettuce(mazurosso) doing ok in the GH.....hoping to sow more Peas and get my carrots in this week

 

Cayenne Peppers have gone in the airing cupboard to start them off, into the seedtrays with them tonight. Other then that just looking out the window wishing the wind, rain, clouds, snow, hail and drizzle away.

 

Oh, and Leek Musselburgh doing well.

 

Sowed more Lettuce (Lettony),more peas and some mustard and cress.....getting desperate now

 

Transplanted cayenne, mini mix and razamataz peppers into larger pots from the seed trays, also transplanted my peas into larger pots.

Sowed some cress which is sat in the grow house, also sowed some radishes in a bit of guttering I got off site, and also sowed some spring onions there sat in the propagator.

Finished off my garden by buying the bark to go around my raised beds and that's pretty much it today, nor been too bad we've had some nice sunshine today been lovely dried out some of the moisture from my beds.

 

It is too cold yet for Beans FC.....

Sowed Sugar Snap peas (sugar snax) in Modules......
Sowed Carrots.....Early Nantes...
Started a few Chard ..(bright lights)....
