2013 Onion Growing Challenge

Not at all Freddy, I do realise you're not an onion freak like me....... more of a Canna freak?
I was just trying to say you can still grow big onions the old fashioned "Victorian" ways with remarkable results. I "cheat" by using heated propagators to start them off BUT no matter how well you start them off, without a decently prepared final planting location and an effective feed, you won't get any giants.

I apologise if you thought I was "having a dig", I wasn't, just trying to re-assure others that we're all in with a chance!

I'm not a Canna freak either (I only have 5 on the go). Actually, I get my 'fix' out of growing Tomatoes. Strange thing is, I don't eat many, just love to grow them! Mind you, they never go to waste, my missus love's 'em!

Of course, you're absolutely right about growing Onions the old-fashioned way. My late Dad did it that way, and as I recall, grew a 6 pounder, which ain't bad!

I've managed to get hold of a light meter and took a couple of readings. Under the growlights it averages around 16,000 lux, whereas at shelf height it's around 5,000, dull today.

 

Look good to me loli, although, I'm no expert

 

Far ahead of mine Loli, only just potted my Kelsaes on, so about 4 -5 weeks behind schedule, still, it's a long growing season, I hope to catch up.
