Cat Deterrent Talk.? All post of this nature in this thread only.. Humane talk only please.!

After trying several things I've found that the only way I can stop my neighbours cats from doing their business in my beds are to put plastic coated chicken wire where there are bare patches. My neighbour thinks this is highly hilarious as her 'little babies' are only doing what nature intended!

She also feeds the birds and has dozens of bird tables which are easily accessible by her cats and which they take full advantage of - again she laughs and says 'it's the way of the world'.

I have moved all my bird tables away from fences and trees to give the birds a fighting chance and am rewarded by dozens of robins and blue tits posing for photos every day.

I'm considering buying one of those sonic sound thingys to keep the cats out of my garden but have read varying reviews.

I use two pea sticks cut into 1 foot lengths and crossed at the top all over the gaps in my borders and it works a treat. As long as the gaps between the sticks arnt big enough for a cat to fit through

I rarely have any problems with cats, although someone does very occasionally poo on the lawn, but to be fair to the neighbourhood cats, I'm not sure if them or the small neglected dogs a couple of gardens away that sometimes escape and have been seen in my garden. Could even be a fox, we have loads of them in the area.

I think the reason I have so few problems with animals coming in is that I 'mark my territory'. I don't believe in wrestling my boots off, running all the way upstairs, burdening the sewage system, running back down again and wrestling my boots back on, when my plants are happy to make use of the minerals that occur naturally in my wee. Its not gross, humans can't smell it and once it hits the soil it is rapidly reduced to its base constituents, but cats can smell it and they know that a human is bigger than them, and a bigger animal has marked the territory. Simples. I've never had need to try any of the more 'conventional' methods of deterring 'visitors', at least not of the feline persuasion.

I had a major problem with fouling on one lawn and since installing an ultra-sonic device three weeks ago the lawn has been clear. I noticed that when we had snow lying, the area covered by the device was clear of paw prints too, so the offending moggie is saying well clear. Touch wood!

 

I've tried granules which were animal safe but apparently repels cats, but not sure it's made any difference at all.

Getting a bit annoyed now - mostly because my neighbour, who does not own a cat, lets her daughter put out food for cats, so all the cats around the area flock and she encourages this. Unfortunately just having a dog on the property isn't enough of a deterrent to stop the cats from pooping and digging up my borders.

Anyone got any other ideas for me? Would the ultrasonic effect my dog?

Thought about some of that lion manure, but some reviews say it actually encouraged more cats!
