Twelve months ago it was 20C and everyone was talking drought, hosepipe ban.

    This year its 2C.

The difference is the positioning of the anticyclone over europe, this year its centred well north, mostly over Scandinavia, bringing in winds from the NE.
Last year at this time it was centred over southern europe, bringing us warm winds from the Med.

Its nothing new, its just very annoying.

As the warm water comes up from the Gulf, it evaporates, leading to increased salinity and therefore density, which causes it to sink going into whats called a Gyre, the huge conveyor belt of water that goes round the worlds oceans, not just the Atlantic.

The freshwater coming off the melting ice caps is no where near as dense, so could stop it from sinking as it mixes with it.

That would have a dire effect on our weather, 2010 being an example, when the stream diverted round the west of Greenland, leading to all that snow & the sea freezing up around several places in England.

Apart from a members only scientific forum, this is the only report of this i've found on the entire internet,

        Source, Wiki.

So it only happened in 2010 Zigs, not since or before.
And was the ice melting in January? I think not.

Quite possibly happened in the medieval little ice age and the Victorian period, but we had no way of monitoring it then. We do know that crops failed and there was famine.

Don't think the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration were making it up, why would they? I'm just saying that something that massive wasn't reported on the national media.

Don't take my word for it, look it up yourself, you won't find much info about it. The only reason I joined Research Gate was to find out why the sea had frozen.

The sea froze in 1963 and probably in 1947.
We have had varying types of weather for years.
Its just now days some clever people like to make it their lifes work, looking into WHY.

They get paid large salaries for coming up with earth shattering conclusions/predictions and the governments jump on the band wagon and tax us because of climate change.

Climate change has been going on since the world was formed and will continue to do so, whatever we might do to try and stop it is like spitting in the ocean.:)

Zig, the reason the sea froze is because it does that,...... sometimes:biggrin:

Its funny how that works isn't it. When I was a kid, I thought my dad knew everything. When I was a teenager and into my early 20s I started to think he really knew nowt. Now as I get a bit past that stage, I once again realise he knows way more than me, at least certainly on stuff that really matters.

I'm in the North East, and today I've been over to the North West, and I can tell you its a lot more pleasant here than it is there. The harsh weather some parts of the country are currently having isn't coming from us.

I'd say we were under a period of climate change, globally, the extremes show that.. the Earth's system is restless, but this will be a great time to either prove either way whether there is a significant amount of anthropogenic influence involved... so it's annoying to us, but highly useful to climatologists.

I think...when it comes to the debate on global warming, and it's causes, that there are a lot of much more qualified/clever people out there that have a greater understanding of what's going on. We go to the Doctors, and we trust their diagnosis. I could list any number of everyday things that we have trust in, all created by qualified/clever people. Why is it that on this subject, we have so many sceptics?
