    I am having a crack at these this year, and have so far followed the instructions on the seed packet to the letter - the main instruction being to exclude light; to do this, I simply covered the top of the seed tray with foil, and left it up the back end of the living room.

    I have just checked on them again (sowed over two weeks ago now), and not one has germinated - I have whipped the foil off for now, wondering if a bit of air flow and a wee bit of light might help?

    I sowed some of these a few years ago FC and didn't have much luck either.
    Like you say they say exclude light and keep between 19'c and 24'c.
    Fingers crossed

    Ah well, I tried. :dunno:

    At least the majority of the dahlias and marigolds have germinated, and even the petunias are looking like they might go (although I have no idea how I am going to prick them out though, as they are close together and miniscule!)

      I think I might end up with dahlias, marigolds and tomatoes only the way this year is going - and I will probably have to install central heating into the greenhouse to get tomatoes!

        Three have germinated now that I have taken the foil off, and they are sat on the sideboard opposite a radiator so hopefully warm enough. I can't put them into the airing cupboard as that is in wee ones room, and there is no doubt she would be poking and prodding until there was compost all over the place.

          For such a small word, wee has a few different uses and meanings -

          Wee = small
          Wee = urinate
          Wee Pee = urinate only a little bit
          Weeeeeeeee! = the noise one makes when sliding down a big slide etc.
          Wee wa' = small wall
          Dinnae tak that wee wa' awa wi ye - don't take that little wall away with you.

          Pronunciation and context are hugely important for the Scots language, and a number of words are used in many different ways (dog & dug is another example).
