It's sunny with us Freddy so during the day you should be OK. It's still freezing at night though (down to -2 last night with us), so that will be a shock to them? Maybe cover them with fleece overnight?

          Hiya John.

I've got a 2kw heater that I would normally use a bit later on, for when the Tomatoes get planted out into the greenhouse border. This obviously means heating the whole greenhouse, but hopefully this cold spell won't last too much longer?

I heard on the forecast last night the cold weather is due to last till the middle of next month.
I've just checked my greenhouse max/min and it went down to -4 deg C last night, that's the coldest in a long while. Now the sun is out it will get to +20 in no time, that's the trouble this time of year, big temperature swings.

Thing is John, if we plan to plant out at the end of April, at some point they are going to have to take a 'hit'? Time is running out!

Yes Freddy they will need to go out then, I'm also worried about handling them (like knocking them out of their pots). I think mine will need re-potting one more time before they get transplanted outside.

Well, I made the switch yesterday, placing the onions on the greenhouse border. I put in some heat overnight, and recorded a minimum of 4.1c:) I'm a lot happier now that I can put my lighting and propagator to more pressing issues. I just hope that I haven't wasted my time when I sowed my Tomatoes last weekend, as once or twice it got down to 4c in the propagator this last week:frown:

                    Cheers...Freddy

I would guess they should be OK.

I found by using a soil thermometer that the compost temperature providing it is not too wet, can be up to 5° degrees warmer than the ambient / air temperature which I guess is what you have recorded!

I hope that makes you feel better Freddy! :doggieshmooze:

                        Hi Tee Gee.

I recorded the temperature from a 'control' pot I have in the propagator, so it should reflect the actual temperature.
