Very small Mowgley, but they will grow quite rapidly. A.konjac is very different to A.paeoniifolius (which could be what we have anyway), but really nice.
      Two options;
Buy them on the basis that you know exactly what they are.
Ask in your local Asian s/market this weekend. If they can help, get them from there and order up Dracunculus vulgaris online too! The flower of D.vulgaris is similar to A.konjac and it is hardier.
My D.vulgaris in bloom last year....................

Konjak is more tolerant of cooler temps.
Paeonifolius needs warmer temps to do well
        (in my experience)
Bulbifera is another Amorph that is supposed to be ok in cooler temps.

My Dracunculus has just spiked above the soil, never grown it before so fingers crossed I gets flower!

Another Aroid I grow is Sauromatum venosum. Very simple to grow, I was given a tiny bulblet and within a couple of years it started to flower. Like a lot of other aroids, it does stink so you don't want to stick your nose in it!

What's the consensus on how to grow these?

YorkshireKris suggests two ways for bringing Colocasias out of dormancy:
              • soaking for 24 hours, with water changes, final soak with Hydrogen peroxide 2%
              • Or just put them in zip-lock bags into which you blow (to provide a little moisture)
              might that be any good?

                Works a treat Kristen

Thanks for the video. I saw a similar one from him last year though I don't remember any reference to pre soaking. Last year I followed his baggie advice and it worked fine.

Is this what Sal would call a Dasheen. Its large and round and looks different from the Eddoes that Morrisons sells. This came from Jamaica. This is the best one of several that I started, without the pre soak, 10 days ago - its looking happy. All 4 large Dasheen have sprouted. But only one of my 4 Morrisons smaller Eddoes shows any signs and one has rotted.

I put them in this box (£2.50 from Morrisons) with an 11" x 11" 14 watt reptile heating mat from http://www.livefoodsdirect.co.uk/Category/Ultratherm-Heat-Mats

The temperature varies within the box and can get anywhere from 5C to 20C above ambient. The heat produces so much moisture from the tubers, that I had to remove some of the excess water. Also the wet plastic tends to stick to the lower side of the tuber, so I think it worth rotating the tuber to ensure oxygen gets to all parts.

                  PeterS that's very helpful, thanks.

I might see if I have a suitable sized cardboard tube, and cut off a ring of about an inch as a stand. Dunno about stopping the "roof" collapsing onto the tuber though.

I have an upturned polystyrene box over my reptile mat, with my Banana seeds in it, but I need the box for to sow me Leeks in ... so I'll get a oddments box and put the mat in that, good idea thanks :)

Peters , just to explain the difference between a dasheen and a eddoes
on the left there is a dasheen and on the right there is an eddoes.

will start to pack the suran asap ready to be collect .
