Last night some little ........... threw two stones and broke the 2.6m x 0.8m double
glazed main pane on the greenhouse.:gaah:

I'll replace it with polycarb. Any thoughts on twin or tripple walled - what would be the best to go for?

    Little so and so's:mad:

Someone shot several of my windows with an air rifle while I was doing the conversion so I had all the new glass toughened just in case.

twinwall should be rigid enough Dave, cheaper than triple. My glazing wouldnt survive being shot with an air rifle :)

Ouch! - sounds expensive if replaced like for like, but if so would it be covered by household insurance and what would be the excess/loss of no-claims discount implications?

P.S. I trust you've submitted a crime report to the police for this incident, otherwise they pretend there's no crime and don't bother with patrols.

I've got the 10mm thick twin wall in one side of my greenhouse for the very same reason.
I assume a pane that size was toughened anyway Dave?

Yes we reported it and a couple of nice WPCs came round and took statements and went off to knock on doors to see if anyone had heard anything. Someone got eggs thrown at their door last night and I suggested she report it too.
The glass was toughened - it was a double glazed unit that my father replaced a few years back.
The really annoying thing is that I built the greenhouse framework specially to fit the unit and when I replace it I'll have to faff about making the frame fit the new 'glazing'.

Thanks all for your reports regarding twin wall - I'm going to go for that. A 3m x 0.9m length should do the job nicely.

One of the outcomes of the community mapping project that I’m involved with at present will be that anyone in the community with a Smart Phone with GPS enabled (or computer) will be able to report crimes and other incidents such as floods, power outages etc. in real time and the incidents will appear on a map.
Participants such as the police service and local council as well as anyone in the community can elect to receive instant email notifications of all or just specific types of incidents.

So sorry to here this Dave, I would consider the triple as I tried the double and it came out from behind the clips. I used 8 clips which is the same for 2 panes of glass, this did not hold and even when I added more the panel still did not hold.
I went over to complete glass and this is the toughened type as Zigs had stated earlier.
Best of luck in whatever you choose.

The local police no longer give out crime report numbers and when I've checked their crime mapping there's reported crimes missing.

Does one spend time pointing out all their continual mistakes (and divert them away from sorting out crims), or just let them get away with manipulating the statistics?

Thanks for the tip, but I should be ok as the greenhouse has a wooden frame and the polycarb will be held along all sides with strips of wood. I've just ordered everything from Wickes and it's costing £107 (inc £25 delivery). I'll have to make a 27mm thick sill with drip chanel but luckily I've got a large plank of mahogony that's been sitting in the garage for 30 years and it'll do the job nicely.

I hope you find those responsable to claim costs back, thats a hell of a lot of money to be down just because of a prank.

Even if they won't give you a crime report number you need to insist on an incident number and, if it's for theft or damage, tell them the insurance company insist on it.
