Despite not bothering to clear cache/cookies last night it's working fine this morning without me doing anything (and tagging is also now working again, unlike last night)

      More sensible answer:

Cache is a load of temporary files that are stored on your PC usually in a hidden folder, the idea of cache is to save time by avoiding downloading the same files from the web site over and over. Your PC holds one copy of them and will use those. So when a web site changes your PC may inadvertently use the wrong set of old files. Computers aren't so clever so we have to tell it to delete the old files so the latest files get downloaded:

How to clear cache in IE9:

I did nothing either, and it`s all normal again. Well, what we class as "normal" on here. :pcthwack:

          Thanks John, :blue thumb:

I've made a note of that as the 'Disk Cleanup' doesn't clear cookies and CCleaner takes a long time.

I used to know how to find where the utility was on my older versions of IE but didn't know where to look on my current version.

The files in your Cache have a time limit on them, so generally your Browser will download a fresh copy "regardless" after that time limit expires [i.e. the new version it downloads will probably be the same as the old one was, but if not you then have the latest version]. So sleeping-on-it will cure the problem :)

It is possible for the website [that you are getting the page(s) from] to set a "far future" date on a file, and then your Browser won't download a fresh copy until then. This saves time by preventing your browser downloading the same file again-and-again; Google provides a service to us techies to store files that are commonly used in websites so that we can take advantage of the fact that your browser probably already downloaded the "Google Version" of that file when you visited some other website, and thus it will already be in your cache, so the first time you visit "My Site" the page will load more quickly than if your browser had to download all the "stuff" if needed from my site. (Google's servers are quicker than "My Site" too, so that helps)

The way we work around this, on our sites, is to set far-future dates on all files, and then if we change anything (an image for example, or a techie program component that your Browser has to include) we rename it - so instead of MyFile.XXX we call it MyFile_V2.xxx - as your browser has never seen that file before, on "MySite", it downloads it afresh and puts it in the cache (forever - as we will have set a far-future date on it)

If you clear cache you lose the benefit of all the files that have been downloaded, so all sites will be slower until they have re-cached their commonly used files. Thus, if you can, better to only clear-cache for the specific website you are having a problem with.

Jenny, I meant to say have your password for GC ready, you'll need to log back in once you've deleted your cookies.

Every time I read this thread I think the title says "small font displayed when composting post" and thinking "why would anyone try to compost a post" :heehee:
