2013 Growing Season

I'm blooming knackered after reading Freddies post
I love Chick peas Loli , are they OK to grow in our climate ? I thought they were an Indian / Mediterranean bean ?

 

I haven't grown them before Harry but thought i'd give them a go.... i'm banking on the weather being kind to us.....keep everything crossed Harry

 

Onions start to bulb-up as the day length changes, so I think of it as the one crop that can't be started off late, dunno what others think?

Sets perhaps? Monty was planting his in modules because ground not yet suitable, I've got some here waiting and might do the same.

 

Same here, my sets were starting to rot in the bags waiting for the soil to thaw so i've got them all in trays in the sheltered area outside.

One has gone missing, just the hole left, no trace of it anywhere

 

Well, I had dug the trenches for the potatoes I'll be growing in the garden, Carol let the chickens out and they duly filled them in again I've sown some more Calabrese (Chevalier), Cauliflower (Candid Charm) and a test sowing of Cucumber. Moved one of the greenhouses ready to be re-situated, cut the privet hedge and just taking a Tea break before venturing out to the garden once again to continue the tidy up/ reorganisation!

 

My neighbours have all told me not to even start until mid May, I ignored them last year and lost everything - so I'm averting my eyes from all this planting. It makes me cry.

 

Put most stuff outside again to harden off, just brought it all back in, the freezing wind is back again

 

I know what you mean Vince Re' Chooks...when i had my old dog all i had to do was point and he would 'dig' the hole for me and he loved every minute of it shame the chooks aren't as obedient.... i daren't even look at a plant because the 'girls' come and dig it up anyone know a good chicken whisperer

 

I think that's probably a good thing Vince ... open trenches, ditto planting holes for Trees and Shrubs etc., will get either dry or cold or both, and that gets locked in when you plant. Nowadays I back-fill any trench / planting hole that I prepare and then re-open it when I plant (or in the case of Spuds just put them into a pre-prepared trench with a trowel or bulb planter)

 

But I was going to plant some today, I plant deep using Carol Kleins ? method, by the time they get up, all chance of frost has gone, well that's the theory!

 

Stop press : I noticed today some of my Shallots are starting to sprout No option really but to plant them out. I don't like false starts...

 

Are you planting these outside ??
