If you found exactly the model of car you wanted would you mind what colour it was? Would you refuse to buy a car if it was a colour you didn't care for?
I am very fussy about the colour but maybe that's a female thing?

I wouldn't touch a white motor, or a bright red one. tend to go for the darker colours, although my one at the moment is silver.

Nowadays, colour does play a part in buying a car, and if its not the right colour for me I will walk away; however, having said that, when I bought the Audi I was really looking for a black or dark silver, however the one I bought (sphere blue) caught my eye and that was that.

Years ago, I was less picky - I once went looking for a Vauxhall Cavalier; I had owned one previously that had been good, traded it for a Rover, followed by a 'green moment' when I bought a motorised shopping trolley (Kia Pride!) and then saw sense and wanted to get another Cavalier - anyway, I digress.

I visited a dealer in Edinburgh, having been to loads of dealers that day, and still hadn't found a Cavalier that didn't have an astronomical mileage on it. The dealer offered me a Ford Sierra Sapphire which was blue - but not just blue, I mean BLUE! - it was a light-ish, bright, almost lurid blue that I took a dislike to almost immediately.

However, the car itself was low mileage, within my budget, nicely spec'd (lovely interior) and the dealer made me an offer I couldn't refuse - basically, the offer was to have the Sierra for two weeks and if I didn't like it, he would take it back and find me a Cavalier of similar mileage etc. So, about a week and a half later, he rang me to see how I was getting along with the Sierra, and suffice to say I was so happy with it, there was no way he was getting it back! The colour even grew on me a bit after a while.

The funny thing was, I have only ever seen one other Ford in that same colour and it too was a Sierra Sapphire.

The price , mileage , condition , specification and colour are all important . Now some say the colour is not important if it is a good price and condition , but then you have to look at sat on your drive every day , and if you don't like the colour...........

Although the colour of nature itself which is fine, I hate green with a passion and the odd thing is it tends to crop up regularly for me. If I have a choice of colour and a shop assistant offers me something they will always pick out green, grrrrrr! So when it comes to a car green is a non starter along with silver, that to me always tends to look scruffy when the car gets older.

I had a black car up until a year ago, beautiful when it's clean, terrible when it's dirty. I'm not a lover of bright coloured cars but I currently own one that's bright blue and it makes me feel very conspicuous, the car was a good deal when I bought it so the colour had to take a back seat.......excuse the pun! :)

All but one of my cars have been red. I have not gone out to but a red car, but i have always got a good deal on them so the colour of a car would not put me off if it was what I wanted. The other car was white, I will not buy another white one though nightmare to keep clean and it got stolen.

Same here with red cars , every car I had from 1968 , a Ford Anglia to the late eighties Sierra were red ! Come to think of it all my cars since then have been Blue. Except for a metallic purple one ( mid life crisis choice ! )

No Harry it happened about 10 years ago, but the police did find it on bricks with no wheels on. And when I went to get it there were about 6 kids jumping on it then the little s@@@s started throwing stones at me when I was putting the wheels on to get it home. A few months later I gave it away to a mate and it got stolen again and burned out. I think it may have been an unlucky car.

I'd prefer a red car and that's what I usually get, but my current car is silver, the price, mileage and condition were more important to me. Once you're inside driving you can't see the colour, unless you slow down and admire it in shop windows :)

I will never get my colour choice unless I paint the car myself, so I just take whatever is on offer, as long as the car is what I want.

I would like bright pink or scorching orange, I always buy secondhand but might be able to get one one day.

I would quite like one of those white cars with a deep, glossy finish, not keen on the skimmed-milk whites. I think a pale coloured car is safer because it's more visible.

My present car is silver, like 70% of cars on the road, safe, inoffensive, but boring as heck. I really wanted a glossy red one. Ho hum.

My last car was a sexy, black Corsa Sxi, not what I would have chosen at the outset but a nifty little number and I loved it.

I would never buy a car whose looks I really hated, no matter how sensible a purchase it might be from other points of view. It would annoy me every time I looked at it. There's always other cars to buy.

So, Clueless, what is your colour choice????

Hey, it's letting me post again!! Hooray!

One colour isn't enough. I'd quite like either red and orange, like a tequila sunrise, or a rainbow pattern.

I don't understand why cars are all one colour.

I've always said that if I ever buy a car that I like enough to spend money on, that needs nothing major doing except that its paintwork is in a terrible state, then I'd paint it how I want it. So far I've never been able to justify it yet.

If we look to the classic VW fans for inspiration, some of those old buses and beetles are proper works of art.
