Not much done. Been a bit wet but warming up now. Everything is way behind. I've planted all the perennials that I potted up last autum but I still have a few spaces to fill with plants. Was thinking of getting a Lilac bush for a spot at the back of my south west facing border, any tips for these plants?
I'm trying to organise with my hired help when I can get the garden finished. I've decided to do it in two phases, having a prep day which would entail nocking down the mini wall, cleaning them up, taking up a couple of path slabs, cutting out the base. Day two will will be to relay everything and make good.
Then up to me when I'm going to do the raised veg patch.

Had a nice conversation (or as close as you can get on twitter) with Monty Don. He is a good read and his blogs and pics are excellent. He does on occasion reply to you aswell which is nice.

Certainly had a bit of rain over the past few days. The plants are now in full growth because of it and the warmer temps. You can really see the difference.

Daffs that are about 3 weeks behind but looking good:

I am not a happy bunny. Today I spent some time checking out my hornbeam hedge, firstly the four plants I planted last summer then the new ones I planted in November. Lovely I thought both coming into bud...... But wait, they look different. Different bud colour, so I took of one of the old leafs and compared the two. Both different. So looks on the computer to confirm my suspicions and yes, they had sent me Beech instead of hornbeam. The receipt states hornbeam but they are not. Very annoyed so I called them and basically they said that I need to keep them to "be sure" until the winter then they will send me bare root hornbeam as replacements. Not pleased as this will be a whole season lost.... We are not on this earth long and I'm certainly not going to waste a year because of their cock up. So I bit the bullet and when down to a nursery who luckily had a few bare root hornbeam left, not the best, not straight stems on a few but pruning should sort that out.
I dug up the beech and planted the hornbeam this afternoon, I'm now going to write a stinking email with photo's to try and get my money back.
I would of bitten the bullet you know and kept them but the beech would struggle in my wet clay whereas hornbeam should cope a lot better.

Yesterday, I read this thread from start to finish all 36 pages and was well worn out by the time I finished. Mr. G you certainly have put some labour into your Garden of Love. Well done. Look forward to seeing the future planned work.

Right Garden Cornerers, this new Hornbeam, some are "miss-shapen" by that i mean they are not the traditional "tree" shape, one looks like a weeping willow :loll: some bend to the left and right. To get these starighter by that i mean growing up, is it just a matter of some tough pruning and that would sort it or shall i go back and invest in some straighter specimens.
